Good and bad buys from Aldi and Lidl

Indeed, but then that is my decision and this is a Moneysaving forum, not a health debate. I hate how HotUKDeals and this place degenerate into discussions about health in foods etc whenever a deal is posted.
FYI, I cook fresh meals from Slimming World recipes, so yes I enjoy some crap from time to time.
But I do love Lidl's Deluxe crisps.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

It's no secret that supermarkets profit nicely from encouraging increased consumption of such goodies. Its taken years to deal with my own carb addiction (primarily for health reasons, not because I am overweight) but I have the dubious pleasure of treating the direct result of poor food choices daily. Something people seem to be unaware of is just how bad drinking sugar is, unless you happen to be an athlete that requires their muscles to be replenished with glucose fast.
But I do love Lidl's Deluxe crisps.
The junk food, e.g. chocolate biscuits, in my local Aldi is as you walk up the first aisle.. :rotfl: but I do agree with what you say regarding the store. I know that I can zoom past the chocolate biscuits straight to the fruit, veg and meat and then down the laundry aisle to avoid their promotions/further temptations :ACompetition Wins:

In search of a quick space-filler after an unscheduled late night back, I found an experimental can of Aldi's Corale baked beans and sausages tucked away in my cupboard.
Now I'm a Heinz buyer and have been for many years but a couple of months ago, in a similar situation, a can of Heinz beans 'n bangers seemed so filled with runny sauce and not much else that I decided I'd better try an alternative.
The result was a surprise. Corale aren't just as good as Heinz, they are markedly better. So, finally, after all this time it's goodbye to Heinz.
And that is precisely what happens when manufacturers tamper with their recipes - even the most reliable of customers finally decide enough is enough.
Well done, Aldi.0 -

Well done, Aldi.
Thank you so much for that endorsement as I know you're not the sort to mince your words.;)
I'm very disappointed with my current batch of Branston as they're full of runny sauce too. I'll definitely give Corale a try.0 -

Disappointed as went to Aldi specifically today, rather than yesterday or tomorrow to get some horsey socks as a present and also look at the country boots - for another present - and the batteries for numerous lights that I have which state they don't work well with rechargeables.
Socks yes I'm stock, no sign of country boots, or battery packs I know stuff sells out quick but really, I can't start taking the morning off just so I can go to Aldi!
Worth searching other shops, ? Dunno, probably not got time any working the weekend. Anyway rant overDebt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

Many's the time I've shared your annoyance Sazzie. They just don't get enough stock in of some of the Special Buys. The last time this happened to me was in the summer when they were doing small caravan tv's. I was down there by just gone 8.30 after taking the DGDs to school. On enquiring I was told they had none left - they'd only been sent one set!!!! I wasn't best pleased!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

There's no point in ringing the stores the day before the special buys go on sale as they don't know what numbers of anything they have.
I remember sometime last year, they had some bird feeder stands which my great aunt wanted. Between the four stores near her that her grandson went looking and the five stores near me, just ONE had them at all. It was the furthest away of the five stores
The other eight, all had enquiries.
Having SBs in few stores and advertise like all stores have stock is misleading. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
