Good and bad buys from Aldi and Lidl

I do the bulk of my shopping at Aldi but find I have to keep a close eye on dates as some items might only have a few days on them.
I find the worst culprits are packs of cooked meat. Sometimes only 2 or 3 days left on them. I look at every date before the packs go in my trolley. I usually find milk and yogurts have good long dates on them but still check anyway!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -

Worst culprit by far is bread here, at the front its usually on the day so you have to dig deep and from the back or lower shelves.
Also stir fry vegetables-same thing.0 -
I agree on dates and I fund with the meat if im not gonna use it for a couple of days best to freeze it. We are converts, used to get Tesco delivery every week but now weve cancelled the plan and its Tesco just for the odd top up or any item we cant get. Will be interesting to see uf Tesco try to tempt us back in any way as was spending £90 a week there. At Aldi lidl its nearer £70 at most and far more goods for that amount, also love the £5 offs you find in newspapers which were regular to the end of last year not sure if thats always the case though.I can offer no resistance, I can offer no respite

As a chocoholic I would highly recommend Aldi's Moser Roth Luxurious Cocktail Truffles, £2.99 for 200g. A special treat, they are as good as any chocolates I've tasted, and I've bought a lot from Hotel Chocolat, where they would be 4 or 5 times the price.0

Milk in the Aldis around here have rubbish dates - 5 days at best. Ok if you have a large family having cereal for breakfast and have loads of tea and coffee.
Asda I always have 10-11 days on the milkThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I chucked out the Aldi/Lidl meat I had in the freezer, Lidl Strathvale brand gammon steaks were disgusting. Shopping for food Sainsbury/Waitrose/Morrisons from now on, the cheapies are OK for cleaning products0

I agree, but their Sloe Gin is lovely.0 -

My OH eats steak (I don't) and I bought him some of the 28 day matured rump steak from Lidl and he said it was lovely.
Did you throw all the meat away just because you didn't like the gammon ?You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0
