Lidl soya milk from the fridge. It's cheap and mixes in coffee without curdling. :)

  • Hi all, not sure if this has already been posted, so sorry if this is a duplicate, but we decided to try the Valley Spire extra mature cheddar at £2.15 for 400g in Lidl a few weeks ago, and liked it so replaced it again this week. Only today did I notice the small text on the back that mentions that it is made by Wyke Farms, which we like anyway, so not surprising. Can heartily recommend.

    Another Aldi gem found!

The Gianni Cones (Cornetto copies). Choc n' Nut. Scrummy!!

Better than Cornetto's in my opinion as much creamier tasting. Wish I'd tried them years ago. Will be back next week to get the strawberry ones.

Trying something new with Aldi with every visit (3 or 4 times a month) and I have rarely been disappointed. Mostly I'm just gobsmacked that I'm paying about 40% less and geting something just as nice or sometimes even tastier than the brands.

Starting to sound like I work for Aldi now but I can't help it. They've been semi responsible for the slow-but-sure erosion of my debt and most of their food is gorgeous. I can't say that for any of the big supermarkets and that's why Aldi have got a loyal and passionate customer and fan in me.

Still puzzled about this thread, in that there seems to be an assumption that it's unusual to find something particularly good in Aldi or Lidl - there's no such thread for any other supermarket, is there?

I work on the basis of buying anything and everything from Aldi until something disappoints - pretty rare.

After all, it's the same food supplied by all the other supermarkets in most cases, and from the same suppliers. Why would it be any different?

The only difference is the price - around 30% lower. :)

    Our aldi favourite buys are:
Dairy fine milk choc -great for making Rice Krispie cakes!
    Korma sauce jar
    Kingsmill small soft white loaf
    Small whole chicken
    Kids fromage frais
    Heinz baby biscotti
    Frozen pizzas
    Corale beans
    Racer and Titan bars
    Prawn crackers
    Lemonade
    Nas squash
    Chocolate wafer bars
    Crumpets
    Roberts floury baps
    Pasta bake sauce

    Bad aldi buys:
    Frozen chips and wedges
    Milk
    Potatoes

Don't buy much from lidl but the creamy coleslaw is gorgeous as is the French stick. Often have my beloved diet Pepsi on offer too

I dont like lidl french sticks, certainly not as much as other supermarkets. Theres a lidl in my town and I used to shop there a lot, but prefer aldi these days.

Lidl frozen chips are apparently very nice.

Ive very rarely had a bad buy in aldis. I much prefer their food to value ranges in other supermarkets.

The only thing I really dont like is aldis soya milk, apart from that, I cant think of anything Ive bought in aldi that I wouldnt buy again.

    Bad aldi buys:
    Frozen chips and wedges
    Milk
    Potatoes......

Are they really that 'bad' or just a little below expectations?
