Thanks for the heads up about the butter could you tell me though does it spread easily ie straight from the fridge or when kept out the fridge and in a butter dish I kerp my butter in a butter dish but have found some to be quite hard to spread
    many thanks

Spreads slightly softer than normal butter, but still not well enough if used straight out the fridge. I usually put a chunk of mine on whatever food its for, and leave a couple mins to soften up at room temp, that seems to work. I really hope its a brand they keep stocking as its so nice for only 25p extra than the normal butter.

Thanks for the butter heads up, Trewithen butter is my favourite (I usually end up bringing several packs back from Cornwall with me!) Sticking with Trewithen, Aldi now stocks clotted cream from Trewithen Dairy, can't remember the exact price but think a pot is around £1.30.

I also find the raspberies go mouldy quickly.

A recent favourite purchase from Aldi is their Lacura cotton pads - 2 packets of 100 pads for 99p - these are brilliant for removing eye make up and nail varnish as they have a quilted effect which means they don't shred.

I will have to try the clotted cream, if its as good as the butter!

I have yet to try any of the beauty products, will have to give them a go though.

A word of warning about crisps/snacks and even other items. Check the best before date as I reckon this is why they can sell some branded items cheap i.e they are near their sell by date. Some of the items Ive bought haven't always tasted as 'fresh' as they could have due to being near the sell by date.

Many of them have won awards. I'm a big fan of their moisturiser, body lotion and lately the eye cream. Unfortunately eye cream only turns up occasionally as a special.
  • Ok not been using this forum very much, but I do look most days to see what's going on. Think I need to stop being shy, start a thread and join in the banter on here.

Lately I've revamped my shopping thanks to everybody on this board. I still wanna continue to save and make my shopping go further.

Rather than me experimenting with lots of unknown brands from Aldi and Lidi I thought it would be a good idea if we could list stuff we all have tried, but most importantly 'liked'

So I would recommend you all have a try of:

(Lidl) Freshvale Cooked Ham - @2.59 for 400g
Great value for money and it's very tasty and has no added water.

    Anymore suggestions?
out of all the great retailers out there i have been struggling to see how much money i can save on buying baby nappys and the cheapest but good value i seen is £4.20 - 44 nappys but in asda they do little angels for 6 pound with the same amount i find aldi was the best so for eny one else have theys problems

The Trewithen Dairy clotted cream is gorgeous! I once stayed at a holiday site in cornwall and use to pass the Dairy at least a couple of times a day. its a 'proper' Farm Dairy.

    The Cornish butter sounds interesting.

Doesn't seem to be available round here - though there is (for the same price of £1.25) a silver-foiled Specially Selected 'West Country' butter, made with sea salt, by Brue Valley Farm Dairy (Glastonbury, Somerset).

Looking at their website, I see they also supply Waitrose and M&S - the former charging £1.75 for what will be the same butter.

Agreed that it is lovely :)

For anyone worrying about being able to eat all the clotted cream before it goes off (quite a big pot, there are four of us but we don't always want to eat it all straight away)) - clotted cream freezes well. I just pop the whole pot in, defrost in fridge when we want to finish it & give it a stir - perfect!
