Their ginger nuts are normally 25p - they are rather yummy.

On the shelf where ours used to be they now have 'Hills Ginger Nuts with a hint of lemon'. Unfortunately, no use to me since I dislike lemon.

Has anyone tried any of Aldi's instant coffees? Anything resembling Carte Noire in flavour?

I have tried some of the coffees - and no, only Carte Noire tastes like Carte Noire.
Having said that, the decaff is a very good one and my son gives the Colombian a thumbs up.
I bought the budget coffee - which I don't drink- and opinions vary widely on it. Most were negative.

Someone on another thread said the Fair Trade one is nice too. Is the Columbian one you've tried the Specially Selected one? There's also a freeze dried Dark Gold one @ £1.49 which could be worth a try.

I love the way this thread has the ability to extract the tiniest details from people's lives. (Not being sarcastic :D).

I love the fact that the thread is still so popular - and that it still exists at all!

'Good and bad buys from Aldi and Lidl' still suggests that the food they sell is in some way different from the food sold by Tesco and the major supermarkets. Or inferior in some way. There aren't, so far as I know, any similar threads for Tesco/Waitrose/Sainsbury/Morrison etc.

The food's no different, it comes from the same suppliers most of the time, but the perception that it's in some way 'different' still seems to linger.

Only the prices are different! :)

I used to love the Aldi freeze dried coffee but have found it has that really cheap chicory taste.
Another bug bear is that many items come in mixed boxes, I love the luxury muesli but Aldi buy in large boxes of 3 varieties. The fruit ones always sell way quicker than the others so I can't get it for ages. Same with the Carlos pizza, can never get vegetable ones.

Most of Aldi's Holly Lane cake range is made by Mr Kiplng. The Aldi I was in the other day had a couple of Mr K lines in and looking at the best before date coding on HL and Mr K, they were the same in font, colour and size!

The Aldis around me are laid out the same, so I presume its the same as your store. Its on the shelves above the freezers ready meals/pizzas area. Go to the milk section and its opposite there.

Not exactly the same in all areas, there are two within about 3 miles of me and the stores are almost in the same layout, with a couple of differences.
