Sorry to here of your bad dealings with this group of hyennias. (Powermatic)
I went to my Grandfathers yesterday to do my family bit, medication shopping etc, he mentioned he had bought a new chair, now I love him to bits and he is now 85 partially sited almost completly deaf and sometimes rather forgetful and confused.
No new chair in the house so I thought he was having a "senior moment" I mean that lovingly not as a derogatory statement.
Anyway as the day progressed I also went to file his bills etc and yes you guessed it I found a one page yellow contract £2999.00 for an arm chair, This company cold called persuaded him he needed to have a chair, looked at his account advised him he had enough money and then even were as helpful as to write the cheque for him.
( I know this is a cold call because he does not use the phone or do any mailing himself)
I imediatly contacted his bank, they are not able to cancel any cheque over the phone because my Grandad is unable to hear/verify over the phone that I am his Grandson (frustrating that the bank will not act but for the right reasons).
So I now will do my nights work in Reading then drive back to Cornwall and take Grandad to the bank to cancel the check, close the account and hopefully avoid the loss of his £3000.00.
On top of that I have drafted a letter to send to Power scamatic confirming the cancellation within 7 days, a copy of there contract and advice that I will be taking legal action. his will be posted recorded signed for with a (for what good it will do)
I am also going to invite Powerscamatics into my home, I suggest you all also invite them around and once there waste as much of there time as possible, and advising them not to prey on ther elderly
This happened on the 30th May so I am I hope just about in time to react, the bank says I have 4 days to stop the check and the 7th day of the contract is up on Wednesday.
A discraceful and uncaring bunch of so called humans helping the elderly.

Welshbird, if your mum truly benifted from the bed then I am very glad to hear it. However you need to understand that this company is using cold hard unscrupulous tactics to reduce the bank accounts of the elderly. If you had a good service I think you are in the minority, as it seems that this site and quite a few others have no good words to say about this company.
They are low lifes and deserve reserved places in hell on very hot beds of coals.0 -
I have a Tempur mattress.
Its expensive, its not really aimed at my age ranger 32 but why not splash the cash. Which reminds me, I paid for it using my Tesco credit card and gained loads of points which I can redeem at four times the face value.0 -

Good luck. Let us know how you get on."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

she has gained from it
I'm happy your mother is doing so well, and so pleased you got such good service. But why pay £3200 when you can get a very similar bed for a lot less elsewhere ? The company claimed to have it specially designed for my mam, but on the order form they had her down as male, 5' 10'' and 9 stone. My mother is none of these, so this specially designed bed would not be suitable - therefore I assume she would not get the marvellous benefits claimed. I'm sorry but my views have not changed since your reply. I just envy the fact that you can pay well over the odds for a bed, and not miss the cash.0 -
welshbird07 wrote: »Sorry, thought this site was about free speech and expressing your own opinion which you all seem to do quite well. Just a shame i don't have as much time as yourselves to waste time criticising a commpany and a product you know very little about. My mother is happy and to be honest, that's where my priorities lie.
Thought this site was about free speech ? This site is about free speech, and I think this site is fantastic for it. However, you should look at all the other posts here and realise you are in the minority in your views/experience.
Critising a company and a product I know very little about ? I know that very similar beds are available for a lot less elsewhere, and I know through speaking with the company directly that they are unhelpful and do not provide courtesy or great service. That's as much as I need to know.
Also, I do not consider it a waste of time to notify other people that they are best off avoiding this company and should also warn their elderly relatives to avoid this company - as said above you are alone in this forum in being happy with your service.
I am now pursuing legal action against this company - be interesting to see how they behave. I will keep this forum updated with details.0 -

Sorry to hear you have had a similar experience to myself. Unfortunately powermatic took the money out of my mam's account using her debit card details, and the money was out of the account as quickly as a greased whippet, so gone by the time I got wind of the sale.
Did powermatic say where they got your Grandfather's details from. They claim my mam sent in a coupon on which she had requested to be entered into a prize draw and have a demonstrator come to her house. I know she didn't because it is not her handwriting. I'd be interested to know where they got your Grandfather's details from.0 -
Powermatic are a tin-pot little company who operate from grubby offices in a Leeds back-street scamming the elderly. I suspect Welshbird may be employed there or maybe it's her mum who runs it. Welshbird - does your conscience not keep you awake at night?0

These scum were on T.V (Makintyer) (speling) investigates were one of his crew, who was about 30'ish was made up as a pensioner. They invited one of these cocroaches to the house. After 6 hours and no sale, the cocroach left.
This woman said she was drained mentally, and could understand how the old age folk just crumble under this amount of power selling. I did also hear the OFT were getting involved.
It's very sad to hear this is still going on
I really hope this didn't give your uncle a set-back and wish him well from please. Please do not feed the Trolls!0 -
I have not seen that programme - obviously wish I had. Do you know when it was on? Was it in the last year or so? I am frustrated by the inability of Trading Standards to stop this company - though I am told they are preparing to prosecute. I would certainly be interested in more details of this programme if anyone knows anything. Thanks.
Fortunately, I have no job and no hobbies so I can afford to make this crummy company my life's work.0
