I've got 10th at £1 and 11th April at £29 so pretty happy.

It certainly pays to be calm and patient in these situations - I just kept waiting - typed in my details and pressed go. :) fine.

It really isn't a con. The rooms are available but the site has problems due to demand. I really don't think they are going to start offering £1 rooms to everyone who complains as giving away 500 must be a big enough loss-leader.

I think £29 is still a really good price to pay and maybe just hope you get a £ room next time.

I have to say I saw all the boxes turn green so they were available...it's my own fault for not hitting the room selection and checkout buttons in my haste to book...however I was a tad annoyed that I had to go through the whole process 3 times as there did not seem to be a return button and back button reloaded the page.....more speed less haste in my case I think...one very dissapointed hubby:rolleyes: ...I'll make it up to him somehow:D
Well done if you secured one:T

I was silly enough to think that you would make booking and then they would tell you if you'd got your room for £1!!! You win some and you loose some! Have booked LOTRings tickets for that night at Drury Lane....I'm sure it will be great...darn sight cheaper than anywhere else . Like most of you out there, I wanted something for nothing!!!
Ahh sorry you made that mistake. £59 is a good price & it is a nice hotel. I'm sure you will enjoy it. Next time you might be able to get a £1 room :D
I would def recommend taking the train if you can though lol unless you are good at driving round London. We had booked a show last time & hubby was insistent it would be easy to drive lol we ended up parking & catching the tube there when he realised he had no idea about driving in London & I point blank refused lol I'm nervous enough in busy traffic.

Ok, this is what I sent to Hoxtons......

    Dear Sir/Madam,

I am aware that you will receive many emails about this offer, and so mine is of no greater importance to anyone elses, but I would still like to inform you of my experience with your website this afternoon.

As I am sure did many others, I was attempting to book a room through your offer for a particular couple of dates. Five times I was able to select the date that I wanted, along with the double room, and yet when I have finished inputting my details, I am told that there is an "invalid rate type". I could accept this happening once per date, but to then be able to choose the same date again, and get the same result is, I believe unacceptable. I do not wish to moan or grumble like many correspondants will inevitably do, but just to make you aware of my dissapointment at not being bale to sample your establishment, with a view to possible return business at full price regularly in the future.

I am sure there must be ways that the technical side of this process can be improved, perhaps with a look at TicketMaster's system of holding tickets for two minutes to complete the address and payment details input. Maybe this is something you can consider for the next time?

I hope that you find my comments constructive, and despite my not being able to stay with you this time around, I wish you all the best for the future.

    Many thanks,

    (Papeman)

I am sure that their poor website and phone network will have been hit by such huge demand (DoS) which explains why people could not connect and were having problems.

Well done to anyone who got a room. Their rates at £59 and £79 seem very reasonable for a edge of City hotel.

I can't believe that people are getting @rsey about this.

    Agreed.

This is, of course, a marketing exercise. The hotel is able to offer very good value on rooms by maintaining high occupancy, and this is one means of making their target audience aware of their existence.

Anyone who got one of the rooms at £1 (as I did just as I was about to give up), or even £29 is very lucky. Quite clearly there were an awful lot of people hitting the site simultaneously trying to find one, far more than there were actually rooms at that price.

These things are always worth a try, and if you go in with that attitude you won't be disappointed. To anyone who didn't get one, good luck next time.

If it isn't a con, there's still dishonesty there anyway.

It was quite apparent that the booking system didn't go live until almost 5.20pm.

However, a phone call to the booking line (after 15 minutes of trying to get through from just after 5pm) had the customer services agent on the other end claiming that it was the first she'd heard of any problems with the booking process and that bookings were flooding in at her end from 5pm.

This hasn't endeared this hotel to me. I won't be staying there in future.

Oh, and it's not a loss leader offering hotel rooms for a pound. Hotel rooms that sit empty make nothing, people who stay even in free rooms invariably spend money on other services within the hotel. They don't lose anything on it.
  • I got a room too for £29, thanks to the person who started this thread

Not many as if you can't prove you're the person who booked ie. drivers license or credit card, they state that they can turn prople away.
