The fault lies with the flash site for those of you who kept getting the error message. A lot of us found that out the hard way last time aswell. But someone did post the html link on 1 of the earlier pages. Next time have both windows open & use the html for the booking & the flash to check the available dates.
They have done this offer twice before (someone please correct me if i'm forgetting one of the offers) & although they don't have many rooms available at the £1 rate they do have them, even £29 is a great price for a London hotel. Watch the parking because it does shut fairly early (about 19:30 if I remember right) & parking outside is extortionate.

That's what I got along with a table of details, name, date etc etc after getting my £1 room. Still havent had email confirmation yet but I assume i'll get it eventually.

I got my room by using that and hitting submit from 4.55pm until 5.19pm until the 'currently unavailable' pop under window stopped popping up and it showed me an html £1 room. Didn't even see any flash colours.
Didn't manage to get one last time, but thrilled my perseverrance paid off this time.
Agree wholeheartedly with the rest of your post though!
