Have finally done my letter to HSBC, claiming back charges. Will post it on Tues. I know I owe them money, but the balance they are claiming from me includes £746 worth of charges so I've asked to reduce the OS debt from £4172 to £3426. Fingers crossed they will... knowing them though they won't and will refuse and see if I take it further... don't know how I'd stand then. Might ask around on the bank charges board if this happens..

So looking at it like that, if I save the £40pw I'll get for the 1st year for going back to work, total £2080... would only owe £1346. This obviously doesn't include any payments I'd make in the meantime. I could clear this debt in 18 months or so if I throw everything I can at it. I'd still have the CCJ on my record until 2010 but least it would be satisfied. That's looking at it positively anyway.... :rotfl: :rotfl:

Hi again Tigz - I claimed over £4000 from Abbey earlier on this year. I also claimed credit card charges from my credit cards and I am just starting on my River Island store card.

Have you opened another bank account, Abbey shut my account and withdrew my overdraft as soon as I requested they pay me my charges back. This led to unauthorised overdraft fees and also to lots of 'nasty' phone calls. I kept cool and despite going to court twice they caved in at the last minute. Not sure if things are a little different a bit further down the line.

Have you claimed interest too at 8%. I would and if you haven't already mentioned it in your first letter I would in your next and certainly if it goes to filing a claim online then I would definitely claim interest.

    Good luck and keep posting.

Hi Sammy, thanks for your msg. I have my account with RBS now a basic one although mum & I's joint bill account is with HSBC so may have to change that, but we don't have an overdraft or anything with them. Yay a current account of mine that is run perfectly!! lol

I didn't claim interest.... if I have to write again I will. I'm hoping they'll reduce the debt by the charges amount.

Well done on claiming back £4000, good luck with the others. I'm waiting for my cc statements to come through xx

HSBC don't respond well to mixing bank charges with other debts. They will send you round in circles. You're better off just reclaiming the charges and then paying it wherever you wish.
They are fighting hard at the moment though - our claim has been running since late Jan, got three more days until the court rules it out.

Spoken to the nursery I've chosen for DD this morning and have agreed a £150 deposit instead of £250, they also would ask for a months fees in advance but as I simply won't have it they kindly agreed for me to pay weekly in advance, so I just need to find £115 by 23rd April. BF has said he'd help me out.

Can't wait to start and get budgeting and paying of debt, it will be a struggle to start with as I'll get paid in arrears and tax credits may take a while to adjust but at least I'll get the back to work bonus, HB paid for 4 weeks and the bonus of £40pw so as long as I'm careful and don't get carried away with having money in the bank I should be ok.... that's when I'll need to be strong!! My bank card will stay at home, will leave £10 in the car for an emergency but that's it!!

Aw thanks... How are you??

Yep all sorted, I have my new clothes and DD had her 1st full day at nursery yesterday, well 9.10 - 4.15. My Mum missed her!! lol

I just need to get things for lunches now, but will do that on Sat/Sun.

Oh - we're doing a boot sale on sunday to clear out some of our rubbish, ahem lovely goods that other people will want. What doesn't sell isn't coming back inside the house, will either go to the tip or charity shops. And anything we make we'll split.

Fantastic news. Only one thing though - how will you survive without access to MSE, or have you started using the MSE replacement patches to take away the craving.....

  • Hi Tigz, just read your thread, congratulations on all you've achieved so far and hope you enjoy your new job. My two were both at nursery from birth and i finished work the year that DS1 started school. One of the posters on here said that it is more important to be available to them when they start school and that is definitely true! Enjoy working part time as then you have the best of both worlds.

    Hi Tigz

I am up and down at the mo. It feels like one step forward and two steps back, what with losing keys (then finding them after paying £95 to have a new set) the wayward son nicking fags and me having to pay for them! Now I have a really stinking cold so have had a day off work. Feeling sorry myself a little methinks!!:o

Oh and my bezzie mate left me to emigrate to Australia! HUH! she went last night! Wonder if she will bump into MS London.

I can't seem to get motivated to do anything at the mo except surf MSE!!!!!

Enjoy the sale on Sunday. I have a room full of stuff that I don't know what to do with. I should ebay it really but again I don't really seem to have the energy. Let me know how your first day goes won't you:j
