  • Oh, and breaking news from my wife - constipation is not something she's struggling from, it's random uncontrollable bloating that's the issue. I don't know what's more unpleasant?

    Hello everyone,
had my 28 week growth scan today. It was lovely to see the little one again and he's measuring at 28+3 for everything so is in proportion. I had thought that this would be our last scan but I've been booked for another on the 13th April (32 weeks). Also had my 28 week bloods taken.

I've got my obstetrician appointment next Friday and this time will have lots of questions as I need to know the results of my liver function test, bile salt test, iron levels, whether I need to do anything in terms of labour/birth due to my strep b diagnosis.

When did you discuss your birth options/plan with your obstetrician/midwife? It's not been discussed at any of my appointments so far and I wondered whether I need to bring up the topic?

I was told today that I'd have another Obs appointment straight after my 32 week scan and I have my next midwife appointment booked that week as well. Do you think the birth plan will be discussed at one of those appointments? Up to now my obstetrician appointments have replaced a standard midwife appointment so is it likely I will need to cancel the midwife appointment and discuss labour just with the obs? (I'll ask about the midwife appointment when I see the obs next week but I'm interested in your thoughts).

Haven't really had the bloating so I can't comment.
Does your wife find it helpful that you are a fountain of knowledge or does it drive her mad that you know more about things than her?

Both! She's frusrated that she can't use technology like me to get all the answers as quickly as me (but then I do work in IT and she's a technophobe, so not hugely surprising), but finds it very useful because she knows that I have my sources to ensure that things are all ok. Like talking to you all on here... :T

MrsManda - I'm sure it's all very different depending on the area but my midwife is discussing birth plan with me in a couple of days at my 36 week appt. It seemed very late to me but maybe that's because it's my second.
I'm glad your scan went well

My mw didn't discuss a birth plan at all, but I looked it up myself and have written a draft one. I'm not gonna be strict with it, but would prefer as little pain relief as possible only gas and air. Might sound crazy, but not fussed on pethedine as it passes to the baby and I don't like the sound of an epidural, but I may change my mind when the pain starts!!

That sounds like a nice birth. Congrats to your SIL.
    How are you feeling?

No its her 3rd, unplanned homebirth as much as I can gather, her mil and sil came down last week not expecting her to go over and with no way to the hospital apart from ambulance and the chance of having to leave her OH at home with the kids I think it was all arranged very last minute!!!

Im feeling crampy (but hey who doesnt at full term?)

2 kids have gone off to grandma's for the weekend so its just the youngest and me tonight.

How did the midwife go goppers? Did you manage a wee?!! Xx

Hey sammie, yeah managed a dribble before i went! The midwife appt went ok-ish, she measured my tummy and looked concerned, then said I was measuring only 32 weeks, I'm 36a btw. So cue panic from me! I said well I measured ok 2 weeks earlier, so how was it possible? Have I got a shrinking baby?

Anyway after a good feel of my belly she confirmed that babys head was fully engaged which can cause measurements to go a bit squiffy and that there was nothing to worry about... still worrying a little but baby is moving around a lot and she guesstimated that I'm going to have a 6 pound 2 ounce baby, quite specific if you ask me! Trying not to worry but I'm sure my small baby and bump are ok :)

Back from first ante-natal class... have to say - wasn't much in the way of information I didn't already know - but was more for hubby's benefit I went... none of the blokes seemed particularly keen to be there though!

Was ok - not massively amazingly useful but ok - clarified some things I thought might have been ruled out because of me being stuck on consultant led care was about the best of it tbh.

Goppers - I'm sure the measurements they do are a bit whack. It depends on who does it one which day if you ask me. Not long to go yet. Are you getting excited? X
