Hopefully then no high blood pressure problems for you. Maybe your mum is predisposed to high blood pressure for some other reason and they only noticed while pregnant?

Anyone got any ideas where to get those bra-extender thingies (just the extra hooks/eyes) - I'm sure I saw some somewhere but can't remember where!

Savage, Jo Jo Maman Bebe have a pack of 4 bra extenders on their website for only £3.

Re. solutions for cramp all I can suggest is exercise – pregnancy yoga, walking, swimming etc. On my pregnancy yoga DVD there are some leg exercises where you just rotate your ankles anti-clockwise then clockwise, alternately point and flex your toes, shake your legs, that kind of thing. I suffered with cramp a lot until about 4–6 weeks ago then it mysteriously stopped, not sure whether it's something that naturally goes in the later stages of pregnancy or not as I'm not really doing anything different!

Finally congrats to Fluffnutter and hugs to Rebekah xx

We got the white mothercare baby furniture set yesterday for only £440 – here's the link to the cot where you can see the whole set http://www.mothercare.com/Mothercare-Summer-Oak-Cot-Bed/397555,default,pd.html The cot was out of stock online so we could only get the 20% discount (ending yesterday) by doing the babyplan in store but paying off straightaway so no admin fee. Everything should arrive in a month's time – the cot (which converts to a bed), the wardrobe and the chest of drawers. It's white with oak on the top. Looks lovely and I'm sure as the baby room is buttercream and white it will really go with the room. A pity that we have no spare rooms though so we basically lose the study to baby! Oh well fingers crossed for the next house :)

    Hey everyone.

I found out today that my mum had high blood pressure during pregnancy. Does this mean that I have an increased risk of it too? :o I can't find much online about it!

My mum had high blood pressure in pregnancy. As did my sister who went on to develop pre-eclampsia with her first which is why she pushed me to get checked out earlier this week when my ankles and feet swelled up. As it turned out my bp was fine, low even but then it has been all pregnancy.

I think they say to just keep and eye out for the symptoms of high BP/ pre-eclampsia and speak to your mw if you ave any.

    xx

LadyM - my mum told me the same thing, she did have pre-eclampsia but when I checked with the midwife she said there is not known to be a link to what your mum had. My bloodpressure has always been low - average and still is.

Not sure even if there is a link they could do much about it. BP is monitored at every appointment and so they will intervene if they need to

Ladies do you think it's time we were treated to a new thread? This one has gotten very long! The last one was 500 pages and this is already 200 more. Do we just start it and copy and paste any essential info?

    Thank you both.

My blood pressure is quite low at the moment. Lower than what is normal but my midwife said that is better than high blood pressure. I just wasn't sure if you could have low blood pressure and it suddenly go the other way and become high!

I'm seeing the Obstetric Consultant tomorrow anyway so will have my blood pressure and urine checked then. I just worry too much. :p

bellola I was thinking just the same thing the other day. I think we should probably sort it. Or read that as, I reckon somebody else should sort it! :)

My mum had two perfectly normal straightforward pregnancies, yet I developed pre-eclampsia with DD1 - I suddenly swelled up (most noticeably my face, my eyes wouldn't open properly there was no mistaking it) and my blood pressure shot up at around 32 weeks, it was controlled with increasing doses of labetalol and twice-weekly monitoring until I went into labour naturally at 36 weeks. She was very healthy although only 5lb 7.

I've not heard of any hereditary links but they did ask me if any close relatives had high BP at my booking appointment? Hope the appointment tomorrow puts your mind at rest LadyM.

    Congratulations Fluffnutter!!

My blood pressure has been low so far but my mum was small both before and during pregnancy, which is why I wondered.:o

I'll try and get my notes soon to get the proper readings. x

    Hi LadyM,

I developed severe pre-eclampsia in my pregnancy and had my Daughter at 27+5 via a crash c-section. My Mum also had high blood pressure through-out all her pregnancies (5!) and the Consultant said if your Mum or Sister suffered in pregnancy you are more prone to suffering as well. You should be fine as long as you get regular BP checks and you sound like you're getting good care.

Just as some advice to all ladies, if you feel at all unwell or like 'something just isn't quite right' get checked out. I had no swelling, I'm a healthy weight and had no history of high blood pressure yet I still developed pre-eclampsia. Luckily the day I had Poppy I was seeing the Consultant anyway due to other problems and I remember feeling slightly unwell, just sick and tired, no headache though. I very nearly cancelled the appointment, I'm so glad I didn't! When I explained how I felt I was whisked to the Delivery Suite and my blood pressure was extremely high and climbing higher all the time. I had Poppy an hour later!

If you ever feel like something isn't quite right, get it checked!

Hope I haven't scared anyone, but I just wanted to share!

    Take care all.

    xx
