Re: the Child Benefit questions
Child benefit is currently available for everyone, but I believe that from January 2013, those whose income is over £50k will be affected by a "charge" which will be an amount of the child benefit. I don't think that this is joint/household income, I think it is if one partner earns over £50k. If the other also earns over £50k, they will only count the higher earner. If one earns over £60k, I believe that the "charge" will be the equivalent to the full child benefit amount.
Found this on the HMRC website:
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/budget2012/cb-income-tax.htm
And this on MSE:
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/reclaim/2012/03/budget-2012-what-the-child-benefit-overhaul-means-for-you
From what I understand, as long as both earn under £50k (even if both earn £49,999), they will be entitled to full child benefit.0 -
Hi everyone
Think it's time I joined the 'big girls' thread as I'm 24 weeks now  not sure when that happened!
Due date is 24 October, first pregnancy and we're having a boy.
Am slowly coming out of denial and buying a few bits. I was really superstitious at first, but since the 20 week scan was OK I'm finding it a bit easier.
Just wanted to post about the car seat we've just bought, in case it will save anyone else a few pounds. We've gone for the Maxi-Cosi Pebble in black from Mothercare. It's usually £160, but black is currently at £130, plus until Tuesday there's 20% off if you spend more than £100 online, making it £104.
Found out in store today that they will match the 20% off online, so we've just picked ours up for £104 from the local store, as it's out of stock online. :T Hope this helps someone else... until Tuesday at any rate!£2 savers challenge:dance:£152/£200:naughty:Still trying to pay off my CC£3,800/£4,343 paid off0 -
Welcome izzydogsam!
Thank you all for clarifying the child benefit confusion. I know we can only claim when baby is born - it seems there will be a form we get with our bounty pack once baby is born. According to LadyMorticia's link we're entitled to it for now... I've no clue how much DH actually earns as he gets bonuses etc so will look into it when the time comes.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!:jBaby girl born 3rd October 2012:j0 -
hello all.:j
LM i just realised after reading your post whether i was on the right forum group too.i thought this was ok after the less than 12 weeks one.;) i think i will stay here as have got to know people.
hope you dont mind
very important point about the weight mentioned though. i have started worrying about it and iknow i shouldnt. its just after the 12-13 week scan you dont have any other indication until the 20 week scan? also when you see your midwife at 16 weeks, what does she do? i keep getting paranoid regarding the heartbeat and also weight (not so much the weight).
this morning i woke up so disturbed! i had a dream about being at the dentists and i have been in a while. i do have a dodgy tooth right at the end, which my useless dentist said i may have to have removed and should go back to her to refer to have it taken out. ouch. i think its my wisdom. the thing is i am scared of having it removed and ignored it.my dream kind of made me scared esp as i read online that bacteria from teeth can harm the baby andi have clearly left my tooth decaying. sorry tmi.. i am starting to panic now but hate the dentist so so much.:(
Became Mrs H on the 1st of October 2011!!
Little Kung fu bubba due on the 24th of December 2012. :j

Rups: baths are fine but I wouldn't have a very hot one
LadyM: my boobs are noticiably bigger in the last week or two, and they were bigger right at the start as well (starting before we knew I was pregnant). At the moment I'm too big for most of my normal bras to be comfortable &/or to provide the support I now want, so I'm on sports bras and some nursing bras I bought right at the start when I was bigger than normal. If you hold off on the clothes shopping another two weeks or so you might find you increase in size as well, these last few days I'm quite sure I'm putting on weight by my bum (or my bump is lower than it was before) and you might need bigger clothes than fit you now.
Bikelesschick, what have you been getting? Or did I miss it in your post? And I'm not sure you can get the OH to understand. Mine is doing quite well but a good few weeks back I spent the entire day in bed as I had a post-nasal drip which meant everytime I got up I was instantly and violently sick (post-nasal drip + morning sickness = unpleasantness). I think he thought I was putting it on a bit / a lot until he made me get out of bed in the late afternoon to move it over a bit and I had to dash straight to the loo even though I'd not eaten anything all day just water! We also then heard from another friend that the tiredness that kicks in is 'as powerful as horse tranquiliser' so he's much more understanding now0 -

...at my 16 week scan it was blood pressure and urine (that's it, nothing else). After the 12 week scan it was weight and blood for the nuchal test.
I think I've definitely begun to feel movement though which is reassuring!0 -
rups this guidance will give you an idea of what happens at each appointment and who it should be with.
