Could you get a load of mince and make up some lasagne, spag bol, shepherd's pie etc and put them in the freezer. All you'd need to do then is defrost and bung in the microwave. I'd also stock up on frozen/tinned veg so you can still get some of your five a day without all the prep.

Congratulations to Turtlemoose. Sounds stressful, but yey on the private room with extended visiting hours.

Erm, I appear to have snuck into the 40's...not sure how I feel about that. lol.

With fathers day coming up I'm trying to figure out what to buy for my DH. He got me something way back when for mothers day...but what can I get him? Ideas please.

Also, how many vests/sleepsuits have people got in newborn, 0-3? I'm expecting a smallish baby so have got 15 newborn vests, 10 newborn sleepsuits so far. Got a couple of cardigans and 2 or 3 little outfits as well.

:rotfl: yeah doubt she'll need to trawl the Internet and shops to save money! ;)

you don't stay having money if you spend it. I'm not what I would call skint but money saving makes things so much easier with money, and everyone likes a good bargain.

Emsbet & Little Moog thanks for the links! Will be looking at those today!

BB - I think Emsbet idea about making lots of things with mince is good, I always have some in the freezer on standby! Another thing that i keep in the cupboard are the Tilda Rice packets - they come in loads of flavours and only take 2 mins in the microwave. If I'm pushed for time (or just can't be bothered!) I have one of these with some ready to eat quorn pieces or some steamed veg. oooh - steamed veg bags? They're quick and easy too! other than that, you can't beat beans on toast, so you could stock up on a few tins! Maybe a couple of tins of soup as well - I have to admit I prefer fresh, but I think that's the kind of thing I will be stocking up on for when baby comes!
  • Morning ladies.
Hope everyone is ok this morning. Is looking quite sunny outside :) not much planned here, just few bits of housework really.

Good luck again for today RJH hope your early morning doesn't tire you put too much.
And Jovi hope you're very near to mummy cuddles

Any ideas? Also any other non-food items that it might be worth getting in, to avoid needing to do another big shop for a while.
like Emsbet mince is great to make a base then it can be defrosted and used for spaghetti Bol, shepherds pies etc. on the grocery thread someone does mix pasta and mince already cooked so is like a homemade ready meal. I've also in the past frozen boiled/mashed pots. Maybe a few tins of soup as could make a quickish meal. Also got a few jars of pasta sauce etc as a quick backup. Don't know what shops are near to you, but I sometimes use disposable foil trays to make pies etc then freeze them ready to cook when needed. Maybe a couple of cartons of UHT milk in case you run out and a few packets of biscuits ;) and of course TEABAGS :D

As for non food stuff I'm going by my own stock piling.....toilet rolls, shower gels, shampoo, kitchen roll, tissues (ppl cry a lot with babies), washing up liquid/dishwasher tablets (so visitors can wash their teacups), maternity pads/heavy duty pads, oh and washing powder. Can't remember if you've a cat, but a stash of food for them too :) Probably missed something really obvious there. But hope it gives you a couple of ideas.

Well my mum and I said we'd get off our backsides at 10am but we seem to have got stuck to the sofa lol.

Have a great day ladies xxx

Eeek! Just ordered my Little lamb nappies... Went for the £50 offer.. Got one in each size... £100 just gone.. At least they'll save money in the long run.
I've already got a handful of Bambino mio nappies to use with the little lambs and I'll probably still use the odd disposable.. Can't see hubby offering to change bum using a reusable!!
I'm hoping I'll have enough.. Will see how I get on once baby arrives

DH is going to our giant asda tonight to stock up on everything, so that we'll have lots of easy but nutritious meal options available in the next few weeks. Don't want to end up getting takeaways! :)

We normally try to do a big batch of things and eat half and freeze half. Soup is good for this, and would be a way of keeping your veggies up. Macaroni Cheese also does well frozen, as would the mince suggestions from Emsbet.
Frozen bread is also a good standby, we have a bread machine and tend to make our own but with the recent house move chaos have kept forgetting so it's a good idea to make another and slice & freeze it (good for toast in an emergency!)

Why not? Surely the messy part is in the changing in any case, and the only difference is shoving the dirty nappy in the bin vs in the nappy bucket? Unless you're going for reuseable wipes as well...

Oh, forgot to say - 16 week midwife appointment today - well that was exciting (not). All that was done was to check for protein in my urine and to check my blood pressure! Ah well, at least I was in and out quickly; and I did get to hear the heartbeat this last week via my midwife friend!

Morning ladies. Heavy nights sleep -lots of pain when I did turn over lol. Need to tidy up from the weekend today and try and clean the living room. Then I will get up and pull out all the baby clothes and start making a list. I am sooo behind. The baby could be here in 3 weeks LOL.
