Good luck Gilly, hopefully by now the contractions are close enough that you've gone to hospital and the birth happens soon. If not and you're still reading this I'm sending lots and lots of good vibes to get you there.
  • Ooooohhh exciting, Good Luck Gilly - this thread if I wasn't already pregnant would make me very broody lol x x x

On antenatal online mw was saying that they will notice if you are able to talk normally through contractions as if you can't then they are strong etc

I wondered about this. I'm not due for ages and hoping that I can avoid hospital/prem labour until at least May - unlike my mum, aunt and nan who all ended up in hospital for 2 months before the due date of their first.

But your comment worries me slightly.
Due to ill health I've experience of being in immense pain both in my head and abdomen (the kind of strength where IV morphine and tramadol doesn't help at all).
I've always been able to talk during the pain (upto the point it knocks me unconscious) and I find it a good coping mechanism.

Obviously I've not experienced labour yet and it's likely to be a different kettle of fish but is it really likely they'd turn me away if I can talk normally?
  • MrsManda, I think its just one way they can tell over the phone. Which probably depends on the experience of the midwife on the other end. The way I see it (hopefully) That if you can't cope or are worried go in and get checked out - they won't kick you out the door without checking you out and at worst you either get something to help you cope or you get sent home. :D

At the end of the day you know whats happenning to you better than someone who's not in the same room. I don't see being sent back home for a few more hours as a failiure or a waste of their time as you'll know whats going on more, your little one will be safer and worrying through labour probably isn't the nicest.

    Good luck Gilly

And Ro with cheer leading posts like that def no need to lurk :p i think its nice when there is a little crossover between the threads as it helps the mums to be get their heads round little details for afterwards (well it helps me anyhow!)

Gilly (and MrsManda) my hospital wasn't too keen on me coming in, I had two or three contractions on the phone but she didn't notice them cos I'd just go quiet. But I was holding things in so I didn't scare lanky teen who was asleep. I insisted on going cos we were a long way away. Arrived at 4amish, I was 5cm. Asked for the pool but they wanted me to wait to be sure labour was established. By the time she came back, my body had started trying to push without me. :D So no pool and no drugs! In that hour I'd got to the point where I don't think I could've got up the stairs to the ward, so I say if your body says time to go, insist on going in. He was out just after 9am, would probably have been sooner if I hadn't spent half the time curled up in a ball cos it hurt so much. Worse than last time, but he was big!

PS, I spent all day bouncing on my ball, labour only kicked in full speed when I gave up and went to bed! :D Had tightenings all day, but the proper pains woke me at 2am.

Eeeeeeh so exciting for Gilly! Look forward to popping in and out today to see how things are going!

I have just had the BEST cup of tea (OK so the belgian bun helped make it even nicer!) after another rubbish sleep, thinking about going back to early evening naps again, woke up on my back again despite being bundled by pillows, it's like I can't keep on my side!
