My grandparents didn't give me pocket money and my parents/inlaws don't give my children regular money.
The only times they are given money is if we are going on holiday and at christmas MIL gives the boys the contents of her change jar so they can buy presents for OH and I.
OH's granny used to give him £2 per week...but it was into his PO savings account which he wasn't allowed to access until he was 18 - it bought him his first car lol.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. My mom has 18 grandchildren, with another one the way!! She would bankrupt herself if she tried to give them all pocket money! But she does try. Apart from birthday and Eid presents, each year all of us siblings get £100 each for our entire family, irrespective of family size. Usually I split £50 between my two children and £50 goes towards her Mother's Day giftYou'll have to speak up; I'm wearing a towel0

My grandma used to give us 50p a week, plus a bar of chocolate each (she did the sweet trolley at the hospital so used to get choccy bars from there). I remember it going up to £1, and then when she came into some money it was £5 which stopped when we turned 18. My other grandparents gave us presents or money on a random basis - my grandad used to keep change in camera film rolls and would hand them out, or take us to the shop and let us pick our own present or sweets.0

Growing up I had weekly pocket money from both sets of grandparents (I'm 37) .....
Neither of my children receive pocket money from their grandparents though.0 -
My Gran gave me pocket money when I was a teenager (decades ago now). At the time, my Mum and Dad had no spare cash and it meant I could learn to budget and spend wisely. It made a big difference to me and I was really grateful. It meant that I could go to the cinema now and again, get to the ice skating rink once in a while and buy presents for people's birthdays and xmas. Life's pleasures that, in some circumstances, you don't want to bug your parents about.0

My Grandad always gave my sister and I pocket money, we got £5 a week plus he bought us both a weekly magazine. He only had my sister and I and wanted to spoil us.
I love spoiling him now.

Chance would be a fine thing. Our grandchildren live in the USA and we only get to SEE them once a year

Not grandparents but agewise much the same as my Dad was the afterthought in the family of 7 and his brothers and sisters were all a lot older than him -plus he didn't have kids til he was 40. His two oldest sisters (who were both childless and in reality took the grandma role as my grandmother had passed) always gave us pocket money when they saw us (weekly). In fact when I left school (and was earning more in my first job than they were getting in pension) I had to tactfully stop them STILL giving it to meI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

My Mum gives my 5 yo DD £5 a month. She does it because her parents used it give me a couple of £ a month at the same age to teach me the value of money. My mum often takes DD out for the day and she makes her pay with her own money for things like ice cream. Works really well as then DD isn't constantly pestering for thingsI seldom end up where I wanted to go, but almost always end up where I need to be0

Hi OP, can I ask if you are a grandparent considering doing this, or a parent who is wondering about it?
If you're a grandparent with the extra cash to do this, I'd personally just save money for them in an account in my name so that when they get married, go to uni or whatever, you could give them a bit of money. It's a lot more useful than them buying sweets or whatever.
I never got pocket money off my own grandparents and neither set of grandparents give money regularly to our daughter.0
