It's a FPN. You don't go to prison for a FPN. If it was a fine imposed by a court if he went to prison the fine is written off. They could withdraw the FPN and take it to court for a magistrate to impose a fine.
If an FPN is ignored and not paid, the amount is increased by 50% - as in the OP's case - and treated as in the same way as someone who had been convicted at court and not paid their fine, which means the possibility of prison in default.0
