I also live in a shared house with nothing of mine in the shared areas if that's relevent.

If the house is NOT YOURS they cannot enter to seize goods. If its your place they can and they can basically take anything they want from any room unless one of the other residents can prove its their property (EG receipts).

I had bailiffs turn up here once to "make an arrest for outstanding council tax". They asked who I was, I told them that was none of their business but I wasn't who they were looking for. They asked me to prove it, I showed them the tenancy agreement in the OHs name repeating politely that they had no business to know who I was. They apologised for wasting my time and walked off back to the van and drove off.

However in your situation you may be in for a difficult situation because they know where you live and if a warrant is issued they may place you under arrest and take you off to see a magistrate. If that happens it will get grimmer for you. Get professional advice FAST.

Nice to see them doing their job. Now they should start issuing fines for incorrect lighting, i.e. only one flashing light on the rear, and even more importantly no lights. Also for riding through red lights. Thought the law applied to all road users?

totally agree, and I say that as a cyclist

Rightly or wrongly this person has, but now he is trying to get help, having people posting what he should have done is not helping is it ? The ethos of this website is to help, ask Martin Lewis the reason why he set this site up!

And where have I said newbies are entitled to ignore traffic rules ? As someone who is new to this site he deserves some latitude to ask questions without the moral witchhunt above.

sometimes telling folk to grow up and learn their lesson is the best advice.
As someone who has to deal with the fall out from cyclists who flout the law,I feel I'm entitled to tell someone when I think they are/were in the wrong.

Got to admit I also dislike the way many cyclists flout the law. I used to be one but the things some of them do are crazy. Ignoring red lights, cycling on the pavement (ok we can forgive kids / teenagers for that but adults?), cycling through pedestrian zones etc.. I've even heard of then undertaking busses and hitting passengers that are stepping off.

Some of them are really arrogant just like some motorists but there are also many good cyclists out there who are very considerate so lets not forget them!
  • Good job, good on them. Serves you right, I've nearly been mown down by cyclists coming onto the pavement because a bus has stopped in their way etc.

Enjoy your fine, and ride more responsibly next time.

There are options, and forgive me for saying this, but you advice is not helping at all, this person needs proffessional help and quick, something you I believe are not qualified to give.

    And people on pepipoo are?

Its a distress warrant issued by the court for non payment of fines. It goes one of two ways, one of those ways being prison.

They offer better advice at times than here, they just give the advice and don't moralise about the situation, something some people should do here, you moral stand point is not relevant in this case. If you don't want to offer advice it's probably better not to say anything.

The OP has made a mistake, he realises that and now needs help, not criticisms of what he should have done, he should have paid up to begin with, now that is to late, he needs expert advice and pepipoo users will probably point him to the bailiff link I gave above, they are qualified to help him.

They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

The advice given has been sound. The OP actually stated "[Should I] continue to ignore it and hope it'll go away", so all the posts explaining why that's a bad idea are completely relevant.

This is also a forum where people are allowed to discuss the topic at hand and share opinions. If the OP wants pure, professional legal advice without any moral judgments then I'm sure a firm of Solicitors could assist, for a fee.

The OP has been given the best advice- "Pay up"

The OP had had plenty of chances to dispute the fine. If you play the game of brinkmanship some you win some you lose. It would appear the OP has lost. Any more procrastination will just result in higher fines and/or costs if they wish to involve a solicitor.

I am presuming it has been to court and the OP failed to attend? Not sure how it works.

    Share opinions ?

Yes lambasting the guy for making a mistake! Now he's gone elsewhere to get help because he's certainly not getting here from some people, another probable user of the forum driven away because people much prefer to criticise than offer help ! I am not saying the OP shouldn't have done things differently I am just saying that he is asking for help.
