cycling FPN gone to bailiffs
Hi there
This is my first post so I hope its in the right place.
On AUG 22 2011 I was issued with the fine for cycling on the pavement (and maybe telling them were to go!) by community officers for £30 (which went up to £45 after I ignored it) The circumstances of why I was on the path I'm sure have no consequence but I'd just that second gone on the path to avoid a stopped tram...
Anyway I continued to ignore it.
I then received a notice of "intention to enter and search..." from Philips Bailiffs stating that I owed £320(!!) regarding a Distress Warrent.
After reading in these forums I found that they charge £75 (admin?) + £200 (attendance?). The fees are not explained in the letter.
I then got a hand delivered notice of attendance to undertake recovery procedures (I wasn't in) on 20th Dec 2011. I also live in a shared house with nothing of mine in the shared areas if that's relevent.
Anyways I'm not sure as to what to do now as I really don't want to pay £320+ for a £30 cycling fine which seems a bit steep for burying my head.
Should I contact them or maybe a CA Bureaux or something or continue to ignore it and hope it'll go away (wishful thinking eh?)
Any advice would be appreciated.

Fines don't go away!! In the worst case scenarios non payment of fines has led to imprisonment.
It's what you own in any part of the house that's relevant. Never let a bailiff enter your home and warn your housemates not to allow them entry. You may be able to agree a payment plan if you can't afford the £320. But other posters are more knowledgeable about bailiffs than I am.
Bailiff fees do tend to be excessive, but I doubt if they are negotiable. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
Just pay the stupid thing. You are way beyond contesting it now.0

You broke the law. You decided to be a clever !!!!!! like most cyclists are when they get caught because they think they're above the law and now you have to pay the price.
Your choices are to pay or risk a day in court, whether that be county or magistrates. Once the amount owed gets to a certain level they can just file for bankruptcy if they're feeling particularly vindictive. Something like the CCCS won't be interested because it is for a FPN, not a civil debt.0 -

Nice to see them doing their job. Now they should start issuing fines for incorrect lighting, i.e. only one flashing light on the rear, and even more importantly no lights. Also for riding through red lights. Thought the law applied to all road users?0 -

Well, I can give you 4 bits of advice.
Learn the highway code, especially the bit that refers to cyclists. The circumstances of why I was on the path I'm sure have no consequence but I'd just that second gone on the path to avoid a stopped tram...
Learn to treat people with respect, even if you don't agree with their job.On AUG 22 2011 I was issued with the fine for cycling on the pavement (and maybe telling them were to go!)
learn that debts owed by adults don't simply go away if you ignore them.Anyway I continued to ignore it.
And finaly. learn that with certain actions or inactions, come consequences.I was issued with the fine... for £30.
(which went up to £45 after I ignored it).
Should I contact them or maybe a CA Bureaux or something or continue to ignore it and hope it'll go away (wishful thinking eh?)
And despite both Vera Lynn and Frank Sinatra singing about it, they were lying when they stated "Wishing (will make it so)!0 -
The OP doesn't need lectures from moral people who have obviously done nothing wrong in their lives ! He needs help, perhaps you missed the Newbie Alert below his name?
So OP go to https://www.pepipoo.com for advice on this, they will probably point you to this website
http://www.bailiffadviceonline.co.uk/Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0 -
Many people who frequent this and other boards have without a doubt done things wrong in their life.
What most of them don't do is to hide their heads in the sand and attempt to evade their responsibilities, especially when they have admitted that they were 100% guilty of the offence in question.perhaps you missed the Newbie Alert below his name?0 -

I think you'll find that in the case of a Distress Warrant issued by the Magistrates Court office which is what the OP has, even on that Bailiff website it says to pay up. The only advice they have is about getting your car clamped.
The OPs choice is pay up or eventually go to prison for a few days until the costs are repaid in kind.0 -

There are options, and forgive me for saying this, but you advice is not helping at all, this person needs proffessional help and quick, something you I believe are not qualified to give.Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. Since when does being a Newbie entitle someone to ignore traffic rules and laws?
Rightly or wrongly this person has, but now he is trying to get help, having people posting what he should have done is not helping is it ? The ethos of this website is to help, ask Martin Lewis the reason why he set this site up!
And where have I said newbies are entitled to ignore traffic rules ? As someone who is new to this site he deserves some latitude to ask questions without the moral witchhunt above.Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors.
