Nope- my wife had our 1st when she was 38 and our second when she was 40. Yes if we'd met and got married earlier in life we would of had them earlier but wouldn't change us having 2 kids (may even of had more). Yes there are greater risks but there are plenty of checks etc. that can be carried out

So are you going to have a baby based on what a bunch of people on a public forum tell you?

Go and see your doctor, he will actually know
    what he's talking about.

That's quite judgemental. A forum is for opinions... not anywhere did I say I will act based on the answers below - it's for opinions and I was interested in how people felt.

Yes lotuseater I did ask before. And I moved.

However, we still wish to conceive and yes we will need help. That, is another story.

I was just asking people's opinion on here. I personally don't think it is too old, just wanted to get a temperature guage for how other people felt.

It really isn't about other people though! It's about you. And of course your OH :)

Exactly! My personal opinion is that yes, it is too old. But that is me, and everyone is different. :)

If you don't think it's too old, you've already made up your mind. So I just wonder why you are asking?
Would you change your mind about having kids, if we all said we thought 38 was too old?
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.
  • It's a very personal thing though, for me though it would be too old. I had my first at 21 and am currently pregnant with the second (at 26).

    I don't think I'd want teenagers when I was 50 odd, but everyone's different.

I'm 39 and pregnant, it has been a very traumatic pregnancy and I have had so many issues,

First trimester, I lost one of the twins (this is an Ivf pregnancy which took 6 years to achieve at our own expense)

then second trimester I had a bleed, which thankfully didn't come from baby.

Now in the third trimester and in the last few days before baby is delievered by c section I have been suffering from gestational diabetes for the last 10 weeks, which isn't under control, I am on very high doses of insulin and metformin, with baby being constantly monitored as she is at risk because of this.

Though saying that, I'm sure you realise everybody/pregnancy is different and you will prob sail through it.

I haven't once been able to relax in the pregnancy and it hurts alot knowing what is meant to be a wonderful experience has been so full of issues, until I hold our daughter on Friday I wont relax as I still can't believe all that has happened in the last 9 months.

If you do leave it later, remember you are open to problems you might not face at a younger age.

Though financially we are more stable than many younger families and have no money worries so cost wise we haven't had any worried on how we will afford anything baby needs.

    Good luck

Edit: Baby is a c section due to the diabetes making a natural birth more dangerous and because the lil madam is breech and happy to stay that way!
