Maybe your penpal could do the work for your brother .... I bet your mum's thinking this right now.

No, they (rest of family) are fixated on buying somewhere that looks perfect - and as I'm not looking to buy a house before I find a proper job/ life etc my opinions don't count. No matter how much Homes Under The Hammer I have watched. I've tried to explain that they'll get a much better deal if they look past the paint, but what do I know.

We had a big falling out. I managed to impress them by finding out sold prices, how long somewhere had been on the market etc (ie I googled the address), so I was called (at work) about somewhere else. It was named 'The Coach House' but was basically a flat above some garages on a newish estate. Cue me saying that I could call it the penthouse if I wanted but that wouldn't make it one. My mum didn't speak to me for a week.

Threads have been done about Coach Houses in the past, along the lines of "would you?". As a rule of thumb it was decided that they are mostly OK only as a BTL purchase and you'd be surrounded by noisy/annoying kids on many occasions as they saw the flat space in front of garage doors as the perfect congregating space and football kick-about area.

When I read 'penthouse' (no, not THAT one lads), I can only ever think "top floor flat".... which isn't a good place to be.

I joined them all for one day of house hunting as it was also my dad's birthday. We went into 2 houses which had flooded (was just after the really cold snap in Feb) - one was new and had never been lived in (think the builders sorted it out, new carpets etc but I don't think it said much for their soldering).

The second was an older property, empty, and we entered to the sound of flowing water. Walked into the lounge which had the stairs on one side - and water flowing down the walls. My suggestion that it would be at least worth asking how much they would accept to take the property off their hands (think it was probate) didn't go down very well!

Well, isn't this hovering dangerously close to on-topic for the board?

I have pretty straight hair. Apparently it was curly until it was cut for the first time. Had a haircut a couple of weeks ago (parents go to someone's house for cheap cuts) and she took a bit too much off mine - I'm sure its trying to find its waviness again (but failing).

Whilst trying to sort through my teenage (now current) bedroom, I've found my old straighteners. Who knows why I ever felt I needed them! I think it was just because that was when everyone had them, and I somehow managed to persuade mum to buy them for me...

Rule 1 is ALWAYS: A good magician never reveals their secrets.

Also, if you do start telling people, then all they'll hear is a whoosh over their heads and they won't understand anyway. Best just to say "I just know because I am ferkin clever like that.... you're bl00dy lucky to know me you know..."

Bad move. Once the twigs were in place, they'd then be tempted to pay over the odds for the place.

No, I need to look like I'm useful for something! Perhaps they will listen to me then! Not sure about twigs, but maybe magnolia-tinted glasses!

I hate this sort of weather during the week in London. The train was disgusting this morning and the tube was no better. Seeing birds going to work wearing flimsy summer dresses and flip flops when you're stuck in a suit and boots is just annoying. I'm wearing flip flops, plus fours and a string vest tomorrow by way of protest.

Many years ago as the most senior woman in a division of a large Blue Chip company (really - a graduate trainee of 21!), it was delegated to me to insist on more decorous dressing from a very large young woman who wore bra less halterneck tops to work.

Her initial response was that "the men liked it". Her second response was to set running a rumour that I was jealous. The lack of insight was comical. There was an improvement, however her urge to show her assets was undimmed and they apparently sprang forth whenever I was away from the office.

I feel you may never have made it to New Cross, Peckham, Penge, Lewisham, Catford, Forest Hill or many of the other pleasant spots to the South East of our great capital. My train has Air conditioning and being after 9 but before cheap time has seats, similarly my tube (no ac but seats and air to breathe. My station also spans the Thames which is great for views and keeps the temperature comfortable...but then that is all north of the river.
I once saw a teenage girl with denim shorts that could only be described as obscene. It was in KFC in twickenham. A bystander was heard to say "oh my god her !!!! is out, that's disgusting". She then went into the toilet with her boyfriend and did not come out...

Twickenham is north of the river. I doubt this is a coincidence.
    I think....

My bro is quite keen on the three floor type coach houses (thinking of renting out a room, which would kind of mean a separate floor) - this I don't have a problem with apart from the postage stamp garden (has its advantages), and not keen on the shoddy feel new builds seem to have (they are mostly newer builds). But this really was a flat above some garages. Will see if I can find a link to put up (temporarily)...

I really can't believe those. First I thought "won't they just fall down and/or droop and sag near the wrist.

Then I realised.... tattoos are the sign of being "a right 'ard b4st4rd". What kind of namby pamby person would risk wearing these and looking an utter tw4t.... ? Surely they'd be an item of merriment and mirth for everybody down the pub.

It's like: bad product meets non existant marketplace.

Or maybe people on ebay are actually bigger tw4ts that I could possibly have ever imagined!!

    :)

    I kinda .... don't get it.

I can only guess fancy dress - for pretty much all the reasons you suggested!
