Am NOT happy. :mad::mad::mad:
I've moved my current account to a different bank because I don't want RBS to sell me to San*****r. All went well, so I thought I'd switch my credit card too. Applied over the phone. All the usual gumph about credit reports etc. Yes, yes, yes, I said. Computer says no. :mad: Bank says they use Experian but won't tell me why I've been declined. So I renew an Experian membership I had ages ago and log in. Credit report has me still living at my old address, but no longer on the electoral roll there - or anywhere else. For most banks, not being on the electoral roll is an instant decline.
I phoned up Experian and got some info from a reasonably helpful minion. So, any NPs who have recently moved house or are about to move house, here's some advice. What you have to do is log onto all possible credit reference agencies and tell them your new address. Then you need to wait 24hrs for their computer systems to retrieve the electoral roll info for your new address. Then, and only then, can you apply for a credit card.
Meanwhile, I now have a declined application on my record.
Rant over. The rest of my life is fine, BTW, and I will be happy again when I've had half an hour to calm down.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Phone back and explain situation and they may well be able to speak to underwriting (who will be off now until Monday morning) and approve you when your credit file has updated thus avoiding the search and no account record. You may have to write to them but if they are helpful phone call should do it.
It may be your council being carp rather than the agency, we contacted ours after we moved in April 10 as we wanted to make sure we could vote in the election but discovered we did not actually get on to the electoral role until after the next annual 'return' got processed several months later.Am NOT happy. :mad::mad::mad:

Thanks michaels. I took your advice and phoned the branch again. Unlike earlier this afternoon, when they weren't able to answer it quickly so I got put through to some head office person, this time it was answered by a lovely helpful woman in my local branch. She listened to my story, pulled up my account online, and explained everything. Apparently you can get a credit card at the same time as a current account (which I didn't) but otherwise, you have to wait until you've had the current account at least 3 months before they'll give you a credit card as well. It's so they've got enough history on your current account to know something about you. I've only had this current account two and a half months, so no credit card. She suggests I leave it a few weeks and make an appointment to come in and talk to them in branch and they'll sort it all out for me.
Lesson learnt: with Halifax, best results are obtained by dealing with the local branch. Feel better now. It's not as though I need the credit in a hurry. I have far more credit available to me with RBS than I ever ever use - well, except when I bought my car last year, but even then I paid it off in full when the bill arrived, because by that time the insurance write-off payment had arrived. I can put up with being transferred to the Spanish bank for a little while; I'd just like to have my credit card and current account in the same place eventually.
Off out tonight for supper with lovely friends.Babysitter who will be in my house with my kids is a friend who's an IT professional. Am hoping he will fix DS's computer problems while he's here, because they're beyond me!

PS It's not the council's fault. I know I definitely am on the electoral roll, because they sent me a polling card for the recent local elections and I voted with it. Experian say that just because the council send them records saying that someone called LydiaJ is now living at <newaddress>, their system doesn't know that that's the same LydiaJ who used to live at <oldaddress>, so it doesn't get updated until someone or something tells Experian that those two instances of a person with that name belong to the same person and need to be attached to the same file.
It's a bit odd, really. I gave both my old and new addresses to the bank when I opened the current account, so I would have thought they'd have credit checked me then, and the info they sent would have told Experian that I'd moved, but apparently not, because Experian only had data on me relating to my old address (and the ones before it).Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Glad you are getting credit card sorted. Poor that the call centre person wasn't able to advise you re the current account 3 months ruleThanks michaels. I've been on two dates with one bloke and have one fixed up with another bloke for next week. I think a joint credit card would be jumping the gun a bit, don't you????Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Relax. Lay on the table and choose your preferred massage oil :cool:
Dealing with banks are a total nightmare. You really have to be ready and in a patient mood.
I try and do everything online and hate having to contact them when required.
Quite glad I switched my ISA's to Nationwide this year though it probably wont make any difference.0 -
Funny this comes up...
I was in a bank with a friend on Tuesday. They were looking to do some transactions and I was sitting waiting.
Of the three people in the queue, one ended up wanting to file a complaint/ talk to the manager, one went a bit crazy and abusive and my friend got very frustrated too.
We ended up having to go on my fone internet, to transfer money from one account to another so they could make a withdrawal.0
