One day, in the meantime, selling my stocks probably - if I can get round to getting a good price, I need to shift all my "craft quality" glass as it's weighing in at 30-40Kg.

    I know, they are hilarious.

I think my taste in such tackiness might be either unique, or lead to a fairly unpalateable clientele. I have never thought about importing anything. My sibling did some importing back in the late eighties. Still has some of the stuff .....

I had a bulky item I was interested in importing a few years back, but if you've never had anything to do with importing whatsoever, then you can't find out what you need to know, in order to do some sums, to find out if it's a good idea.

I figured I had to get the stuff from some mountains to a foreign port, then onto a boat, then I had to land it into a British port, into some special warehouse, where I had to do some paperwork and pay an undefined amount of duty. I then had to get it out of the special warehouse and onto a lorry, then into my own storage. And then .... I had a shedload of stuff to flog.

I kind of went off big/heavy stuff after that.

How much space is it taking up? Can't be more than a couple of cubic metres surely? Could we find somewhere to store it for you until you are ready?

It's about half a cubic metre probably .... but it ends up as stuff you're holding onto "in case" - and I am trying to ditch as much of that as I can. I did have it as one big pile, but now decanted into lots of smaller, neat, boxes, but it's still stuff that needs carting about, loading/unloading, etc. It took me almost full-time to collect it - and I did about 1000 miles I guess. I decided that the quality for what I wanted wasn't available in any of the 50 places I'd looked... and it was cheaper to buy what I wanted online :)

The big issue at the moment is "random and non-specific, certainly non-posh, furniture". Phoned the auction place today (it's down here, so that's "THE", there's no choice).... which is 20 miles away. In order to flog stuff I'd have to hire a van and hire two blokes to get it there.... and stuff doesn't sell for more than £10s she said. She's going to see if their man can drop by one day when he's next in the area, to see what I've got and give me advice. Best advice will probably end up having to pay somebody to take stuff away.

Down here things are a lot different to how things happen in populated areas. I bet you lot could get the same stuff picked up cheaply and sold at £40-100/piece.

What about something like these people. You won't get anything for it, but at least it could help somebody and get it off your "to do" list:

We have a similar organisation near us and they are great.

Doubt it pn! Re selling. We were told we couldn't give purs away by the local dealers. Trick with brown furniture appears to be to paint it with a farrow and ball paint, statting which in ad, and flogging on ebay with the words french, shabby chic, vintage and retro in the ad.

I am going to paint some of ours and keep it. My parents keep telling be i will regret ainting it as it will be worth something unlainted one day (brown wood stuff) but i don't like it now, so why wait for maybe in the future?

Re your glass, if you want to store it here till you are settled i can squeeze it in somewhere for you if you get it here.
