The current working theory is that there was something here earlier than any ine could have guessed. We think anglo saxon, but not a house then, just that it was 'a place'. I don't like the name of our house, so when the extention is finished we might alter the name a bit to reflect the emerging picture of the history but keep the house name too, as it has been around a couple of hundred years or so.
You must be in the big 'ole D Book!!!! And old when that was written. Blimey ....0 -

Get them in ... I could pop along and chain smoke alongside them muttering "brush your hair" and "don't talk like a tw4t, you say that in every programme and it's dull now".0 -

So far as i know, no, but might be worth seeing what we can id to see if the nothing that might have been here in anglo saxon times is mentioned or something id able.
I think what would have been here first might have been a drovers inn or something. There was a rich market just up the road, and this would have been half way between there and the religious thing ( and college i read recently, which i want to learn more about) so would have had a decent clientele in vicinity where people might want to be close to both/either but not too close.
Again, conjecture worthy of a romantic historical novel.0 -
1994. Is mine the newest? Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

No, no, no, not before w have it standing and better. Dh read archealogy at uni, so had thought about having some students from the college over ( any finds gifted to college)0 -
Time travel would be brilliant for this sort of stuff.... to be able to go back and observe.... and to have conversations with people that were simply fact-finding, not earth-altering.
Imagine being able to go back, to a date your time machine said it was exactly .... and see people building, altering, living there.... and being able to stand at the gate and engage them in conversation.0 -

It's worth checking with the county archives whether they have any documentation relating to the house or village. County archives have a mind boggling amount of historical paperwork dating back centuries. It's quite funny that we brits are so known for our bureaucracy when the French who invaded us way back when have a lot to answer for. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Done that! It was amazing. There are two tubes of stuff relating to our house, but 18th century onwards. When looking at the maps of the villages that were older there was something here though.
Truely amazing resource to have.0
