Surely for someone who loves preserving books as much as you do the bodlein tour is a must!?

Also, if its during summer there might be college tours? Whats the date, we are there four times in summer i think, so might coincide.

    First week in June.

I don't have shopping days.... I go into shops when it's convenient and I need something. Yesterday it was convenient and I needed something... but when I saw how much food they had there (big Asda) I was over-whelmed and scared.... and so legged it with the minimum.... but I did grab a pack of 2 round Peshwari naans. 67p - bargain. I also stocked up on baked beans (4 for £1.48, even though the Branston ones are 4 for £1 because the Branston ones are rank).

There are rarely reductions in these parts, knock 10p off something costing £2 and there are enough idiots to "snap it up" before it can be reduced further.

    So... today's food has been:
Breakfast: The last of the wine gums and a packet of Tomato Ketchup crisps.
Lunch: Two peshwari naans. C0cked up there, one was plenty.......

I've not even touched the loaf I picked up 2 days ago - so that wants lobbing in the freezer.

I have one eye.... it's been hurting all day, it's blurry and was almost impossible to drive the narrow/winding/busy lanes today, but I had jobs to do.

It was caused by a combination of: lighting a fag .... standing in a wind tunnel when a gust of wind blew my way .... got a hot rock right in the bl00dy eye.

    :(

Earlier I had to stick my head under a pillow and close my eyes for 30 minutes..... I'm expecting it to clear up by itself in 2 days or so. Never done this before.

Go get medical advice & fast!

I know you probably won't, but I'm going to say so anyway.

The eye is the softest part of the body, & therefore very vulnerable. A friend did something very similar to you, & went to the (now shut down - thanks a bunch tories!) eye infirmary, & they told her that there is a very thin membrane on the eye that if damaged by heat, can lead to severe problems.

I'd forgotten all about this.... it doesn't hurt at all. No irritation today ... and if I close my good eye then the bad one's nowhere near as blurred as yesterday.

I think I got away with it.

:) I don't think I've been there the whole time. Plenty of nice places in Oxford though, skip the chain restaurants.

Anywhere a particular recommendation for you misskool?:)

It certainly isn't! Because by the time you get there you only really have 10 mins to do everything you shop in a blind panic, just chucking any old thing into the trolley, not planning meals properly, and buying stuff you don't need. We never, ever, manage to do it for less than £50/week and it's usually more like £75.

That amount is just under our monthly shop.
We also spend between £10-£15 each week on perishables (bread, milk, fruit, fresh veg - til me garden gets growing).

We do a main shop between 50 and 100 which includes all food and most toiletries, nappies (though we are passed that stage now) etc and sometimes stationary, clothes, tools, photo frames or whatever is on deep discount but supplement with whats on bogof in other stores and probably a monthly online when there is a particuarly tasty voucher floating around.

Monthly grocery bill for 5 is about 450 (where grocery includes toiletries, cleaning products etc) but we don't generally buy alcohol so that makes it a lot cheaper than most.
    I think....

our shop includes toiletries, but no booze. i don't drink in the house, so if the mrs wants to down a bottle of wine a night she has to pay for that herself!
