I don't celebrate birthdays really. Get a wee bit maudlin. I am difficult for family because i dislike surprises. This year i have asked that if they buy me a gift i can choose the curtain pole i want for one room. Then i can make a pair of curtains for that room.

Having missed a few milestone birthdays I decided I really must do something for my 40th. My friend said she's help organise it with me. I picked about a dozen people who'd been fabulous at supporting me through LNE leaving etc, and my friend was going to organise them to bring something each, so we could have a dinner party at my house without my having to cook it all. It was quite hopeless to do it in August - everybody was going to be away, so we looked for a date in the autumn that everybody could manage, on a weekend when my kids were going to be with LNE so no child-interruptions, and finally planned a Saturday evening in November. Then, two weeks before it was to have been..... "the accident". So no party.

zag - I'm so sorry to hear about your DD. Hope things turn out like silvercar's OH and she too has 10 stone-free years after this second one.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

18th, had a joint party with my brother (who was 21), held over a month after my birthday.
    21st, don't think I did anything special.
30th, def didn't do anything special.
34th, had loads of friends come from all over the country to have a meal in a local pub restaurant, taken up by stretch limo, then onto speedway where now ex hubby presented me with money to book to go to the Danish GP (speedway) and then all back to the hotel (in the limos) where everyone was staying for drinks.

Yep, we do weird things but I think the 34th was to make up for the lack of 21st and 30th.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    You're a spring chicken to me ;)

I hit the 6* last year and don't even get a bus pass till next January. DH got his a couple of years ago and doesn't even use it.

I did not get the fancy celebrations either until got married and had dds who insist we at least have a nice meal out and flowers etc. They bought me roses and a fancy mug last Saturday "just because" and did not realise Mothers day was so near.

My 18th was ok, bit awkward juggling different groups of friends, and of course some weren't old enough to drink, some were. Just ended up in a Wetherspoon's in Manchester where we knew we could get served!

My 19th was much better. Probably the best birthday I've ever had. First year of uni, had really great friends, family came over for lunch too. Very happy day.

21st was a bit of a non-event, had a night out but it wasn't fantastic.

22nd was the first birthday I've ever felt depressed. Graduated, no proper job, no girlfriend, no direction, life stalled a bit, and it felt like another year had passed and I'd got nothing to show for it.

23 next month, so I'll report back then :p

The big question though: has Gen been infected by the Walkabout bug?

I think I might have. We drove back from Brisbane today in a day. We had brunch in Ballina, afternoon tea and a dip in the ocean at Coffs Harbour and dinner at Port Macquarie before doing the last 450km in one dash once the Generalissimos were dropping off to sleep, just stopping to refill the tea cup every hour or so.

Not bad considering we were driving a 1.3l Toyota Yaris which isn't exactly a German mile eater!
