I frequently make my kids try a little taste of things (although only in private en famille, not at other people's houses or when we have guests). It works on DD. DS has yet to change his mind about any of the things he doesn't like. He knows his own mind, and doesn't change it easily, as regards food just as regards everything else.

Isaac's got a lot more adventurous of late. Tonight, he happily ate very slow-roasted lamb shank with carrots, celery and parsnip in a red wine sauce. Ate a lot of it. He poked at it first, said, "Do I like this?" and when told he did, munched away.

How do you teach maths to your kids? I just get numbers - they all make sense and i can not understand how for example fractions could even need explaining so i have absolutely no idea to to explain it to my DD.

I cut up an apple last week for fractions, and we ended up eating 1/8th of an apple, etc.

Like that idea, but with cake. :D

In my local supermarket I passed a dad getting harassed by his (very young) daughter with questions about her birthday.

Then she asked when it was and he said "it's thirteen months away".

She went all quiet, subdued and thioughtful and ventured " that's a very long time" and he sympathetically agreed, but it did stop her asking about presents!

My daughters is 15 months away. I think I will remind her of that the next time she starts hassling me about it. Trouble is she's not so young to fall for it. She'd love the counting by cake though :)

I'm extremely unfussy in pretty much every regard, but I'm also grumpy, painfully antisocial, rude, stubborn, selfish, immature, fickle, particularly unadventurous, and rubbish in bed so it seems your theory is not borne out!
So your gf's getting off light with you ducking and diving the question.
I do at least know my principle character faults though.
    She's taught you something then.

How is the "avoiding the big question" going?

Pretty well. We had an argument about the TV last night after she tried to watch a fourth episode of CSI in a row. Maybe I can engineer a constructive dismissal by banning her from watching CSI. I'm going away for a week on Sunday, so might just shout "I DONT WANT BABIES" as I leave the house.

This has to be my pic of the day... bathrooms....

Following on from the thread about rents dropping, I had a look at what I could afford in my county and came up with this.

One bed flats are dire for bathrooms.
