    I didn't know it was :)

I can't forget because it is DS2's birthday, but Martin has put it on the banner.

I grew up in Wales and we always used to go to school in welsh costume and have half day off.

Oh, I never look at the banner.

You could still dress up in Welsh costume and have half a day off today - that's the beauty of being retired. Of course, you'll look and feel an idiot, but you CAN do it :)

Knowing how computers work, that banner annoys me .... I just know there's simply a database somewhere loaded with graphics and an admin list of events to include/exclude, so the program on loading says "what's the date... lookup the date in the table to see if there's a special banner..... if there's a special banner is the box to show it ticked.... load special banner else the default one". So, if by 11am St David's Day was politically incorrect somebody would simply have to untick the box in the table against the entry for St David's Day and it'd instantly stop showing.

It all feels so .... contrived, impersonal, detached. Maybe it gives non-IT people a warm fuzzy welcoming feel, but I don't see what's on a page, I see the code that gets it there.

I bet he's already got the Olympics graphics pre-loaded ... and Xmas 2012.

Aw, and there was I, thinking Martin had a little old lady in his office somewhere with an almanac, cutting out little pictures to stick on the masthead. :(

Really, I don't see it's much different from what we have on the other computer, which is a database of plant descriptions we've built up over the years. At the push of a few buttons we get labels which relate the plants we sell. Today, for example, could be Hellebore Day.

Originally, we did have a little old lady with a pencil to do the job, so each label was, in a sense, unique. On the other hand, the little old lady was also like the computer in that she didn't think about the stuff she was writing, especially the repeats.

Happy St. David's Day to all the Welsh posters and lurkers

I don't get any PM's on here and lucky if I have had box full over the last couple of years.

If anyone does want attention (male or female) then using your picture as your avatar normally works.

I think chewy is asking for attention then ;).

mr broderick asked me about five years ago to send him some, ahum, pictures. I said no,which didn't stop him from asking if I wanted to see some of him. Thankfully, he didn't send me any. Maybe he had a thing about girls with blue hair, or hard hats. My avatar used to have a hard hat and a perm. I might change her a bit again.
