As for FriendsReunited, tried that in about 2004 and there weren't many people on it I knew .... well, there were 1-2 who I wasn't interested in being in touch with again who wrote to me and kept pestering me.... so I stopped going there too..

I'm on Friends Reunited and I don't get too many messages, but that's because I haven't linked myself directly to the main school where I taught. FR can be a scary place for ex-teachers, who often receive a real slagging off!

Anyway, ex-pupils with enough intelligence and interest still find me from time to time. They often express surprise that I'm not even doddery yet. In turn, I'm equally amazed that some of them have grown up children. :rotfl:

I've looked-up a few old school friends on there, or they've found me. The last one who messaged saved me contacting another, who'd topped himself the year before. This is the problem now; much info is out of date. :( I want info on an old friend who has MS, but can I get any of her old mates to reply? Chances are, they're not being obtuse, but just that they've changed emails, or simply stopped looking/receiving.

Facebook....no I don't do that. Half the village is on it, but with the pub full of those same people, it all seems a bit irrelevant.

Never had an inappropriate PM on MSE, but there's a first time for everything.....:D

The first question rules out the second. Until he has his A level results we don't know which uni, if any. He has offers from Bristol + 3 northern towns. He has to choose which 2 offers to keep within the next few weeks.
Bristol is kind of expensive - like Oxford, Cambridge and Brighton.
And of course Sheri Blair went right over the top with her cub's place.

I think we need to institute a max 2 pages rule for NPT during the week or I will have to start working less again. I had some things I should have done online this evening but it has taken me too long to catch up with the thread and it is so hard to decide to miss a few pages as those might be the interesting ones (...even more interesting...).

Does anyone else get really sleepy (not tired, literally falling asleep) in the middle of the day - could it be a blood sugar thing?

If I go quiet again its because I too cannot keep up.

I can fall asleep anywhere especially after lunch - it is because my man body can only do one thing at a time :D and that includes digestion.

Leap day "Womans Hour" on BBC Radio 4 included a passionate attack on the English education system's "special needs" provision:

    Kathy Lette

Kathy Lette is famous for her trademark wit and as the prolific and successful author of many novels primarily aimed at a female readership, from “Girls’ Night Out” to “Mad Cows” and “Foetal Attraction”. But now she is turning to very personal territory in her new book, “The Boy Who Fell to Earth”. It’s the story of the relationship between a mother, Lucy, and her son, Merlin, who has Asperger’s. Kathy too has a son with autism. She joins Jenni to talk about the extraordinary highs and lows of parenting a child who is capable of moments of brilliance and moments of agonising anxiety.

Small triumph today - My 165K mileage estate car wangled its way through the MOT.
Diesels go on and on but the dreaded emissions test can catch up with them and working on a diesel engine soon gets more expensive than the value of the car.
After last year, where we had two breakdowns, let us hope its back to a year of trouble free motoring like the previous 9 years:beer:

I've never received any dodgy PMs :(

I've been contacted a couple of times by people asking how to get into forensic accounting, and a couple more times by people trying to sell me something, but that's about it.

Re: falling asleep in the middle of the day - I often come close after lunch, but that is because I am a terrible insomniac. It makes me quite cross that I'll be sleepy all afternoon, but wide awake, not feeling tired at all, the whole of the following night.

. I have eaten and can eat stuff every day for 3-4 days, but it's not a lifestyle.

Looking at my credit card statement the other day I realised I've had the same thing for lunch every week day for at least the last month. That's pretty normal for me, I probably change to something new once every six weeks and if I like it I stick with it. I get really confused and lost if I go down to the shop and they are sold out of whatever it is that I'm in the habit of having for lunch at that point in time.

When I was single I used to do the same with dinner but I've lost control over that now!

    I'd like that .... :)
    Not my sons, of course.

    What're yours like?

    :)

    Tall, dark & handsome.

But you wouldn't want me for a mother-in-law and they are hopeless at saving money.

Well, not having a reply, after just a week, can mean anything, including, but not limited to:
    - email address is no longer checked, that email address is only used to sign up for things they don't really trust
    - on holiday for 2 weeks
    - it got swamped in the email deluge
    - PC out of action

Of course, for many people, they might also add "doesn't like me", but as it's me and the NP that one doesn't apply.
