James was pretty easy for his 18th, he wanted (well really he needed), a decent laptop for his studies and because my budget is not capable of providing items like that, he just requested everyone gave him money (when they asked what he wanted of course, he didn't demand).
He got just about enough to buy a cheapish but quite high spec laptop. Blooming good thing really, his provided laptop at school has been with the technicians for quite a while now, so he just takes his own in.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Something to play music on (an upmarket ipod /dock spoeaker set-up. I don't know if hi-fi still exists!
A good TV to take to uni, with laptop connections? Just realsied how risky that would be to transport, though if it's a decent size!
Gliding lessons? Flight over London? balloon trip? I know you said he doesn't want experiences but if you pick something unusual that might tempt him, maybe he'll go for it.chewmylegoff wrote: »or a good pair of headphones, you can spend quite a worrying amount on them these days. just don't get those chavvy dr dre ones.
The iPod docking station was last year's present.
He has dr dre headphones from saving his money himself.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Three years subscription to Spotify to serenade him through his degree? Plus something more tangible as well maybe. (e.g. a large hammer). There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0

Sorry to hear about you foot, hope it's better tomorrow, it might ease once you've rested it in bed. Do you have Ibuprofen? My son was given it by A & E when he sprained his ankle playing rugby and it seemed to help.
I don't have Ibuprofen, I've got some cheap Aldi Paracetamol.
I am not a pill taker, in fact painkillers never even occurred to me and the only reason I have the paracetamol is I confiscated them from the old's stuff as the old wasn't aware how many they'd had already and I was buying way too many for them.0 -
I'm a big fan of the OU, having worked as a tutor. One weird thing though was that I had a student in Dorset, when most of my students were within traveling distance of Surrey. They quickly reassigned them to a more westerly centre.
Their efficiency was awesome. You sent the scripts and feedback to Milton Keynes on Monday. They checked your marking and sent it out to the students. On the Saturday you went to whichever university they'd hired for the tutorial and the students all came in with their work and your feedback!
Maybe I better wipe this post as it might liook like an advert.!
I've not studied since as I was moving about/couldn't make plans and couldn't afford it. Although, I now find out (through MSE) that I could probably have got funding ... everybody else seems to have been funded, but they'd kept the income rate low and my wages had dropped and I didn't know.
It was always my plan to continue ..... but the cost stopped me mostly. Now I don't know if there'd be a point. So what if I got a degree (which'd take another 3-4 years with them) .... I'd be unemployable due to being a new graduate of a certain age.0 -

Have you possibly pierced the skin and infected it.
No
Something was on the floor, as I was walking across the floor my small toe ended up one side of the upright thing and the rest of my toes were the other side of it, as I was walking, I then put my full body weight onto it and thought "f*** .... that's not right"
There's a lot of stuff on the floor when you've no room for things/stuff -and- you've got everything out as you're sorting it out. And I had to close the curtain and did that and then it was dark and I was walking over the floor (trying to avoid the printer) to get to the lightswitch.0 -

Nor am I , but on the odd occasions when I do, they work, and I don't need lots to feel the benefit.
Anti inflammatories, like ibuprofen, reduce the cause of the pain & don't just mask it. Worth having some in, considering the piddling amount they cost.0 -
Or broken something?
Pastures, if it's no better this morning, you need to get it seen by a doctor. Don't bother with a GP. I did that once when I hurt my foot, and he just looked at me and said "Well, I haven't got an X-ray machine, have I? We need to know if it's broken so go to A&E."
If it might be broken, please don't just grit your teeth and walk about on it - you could damage it further and make it take longer to heal in the long run. You do a lot of walking and you really need your feet, so get this one looked after. If you can't drive, phone for a cab. Or you could try phoning NHS direct and saying you need to get to A&E but can't get yourself there with your foot in this state - you never know they might offer you a non-emergency ambulance.0 -
I thought the siblings were all hundreds of miles away and only came to Cornwall occasionally, so not lift-giving distance. But I may be wrong.0
