As I recall, any tree with a trunk diameter of more than 4" was protected if it grew within the conservation area in Bath. Fruit trees were exempt.

I have a similar dilemma here. The only oak we managed to save from the mismanaged windbreak out at the back is growing just a little bit too close to the drain leading to the septic tank. Since I removed all its less distinguished buddies a year ago, it's really perked-up, standing well over 15' tall and filling-out nicely. This will be its last winter....:(

I do have a replacement and there are many other oaks on the holding, including five mature specimens, but losing a good tree like that is still sad.

I know the Miele upright is good, but we've had a Panasonic for many years and I like its lightness. For lightness, you could also try a Sebo, which is what the salesperson in John Lewis said she used, even though she was demonstrating the Miele.

However, I went to the local recycling shop a couple of weeks ago and bought another Panasonic for £20! :rotfl:It was in there because its belt had come off, I think. It isn't as quiet as the old one, or quite as light, but it does much the same job. We have a Miele pull-along too.

Miele are expensive! Henry is 85 at John Lewis- 105 elsewhere. Miele is 170.

I bought a cylinder one, Russell Hobbs, for 45 from Tesco yesterday, then read the reviews, so it's going back.

We has a beautiful oak tree in our old garden, the new owners have removed it as it was in the way of their football. It was over 100 years old. :(

We have a henry, sucks well but doesn't have a brush head that cleans in to carpets and I think it lets quite a lot of fine dust/odour through the filters. But generally not bad, quite heavy to lift upstairs.

    Same story as us!

At one stage I used to "commute" through the Gorbals area of Glasgow (There is Glasgow Green on the other bank of the Clyde )
I had this sensation that I owned the only bike in Glasgow but that was in the 1960's..

    That's because you did. :D

Glasgow's so hilly they used it to stand in for San Francisco this year when filming a Halle Berry Movie," Cloud Atlas".Just down the road they were using George Square to stand in for Philadelphia in "World War Zee".

AFAIK, most NPs have commitments on our time so we couldn't make use of these chances to act as movie extras.

Before I forget, best of luck tomorrow Chewie!:)

The Hoover, which is an electrolux upright, has packed in.

Any ideas on replacement? I'm tempted to buy a Henry.

My current one was a £24.99 special from Lidls purchased two years ago. It does the job but is rapidly falling to pieces...my dream is to upgrade to a Henry but it will probably be another cheapo.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    May depend on the council?

Protected tree in my parents old house back garden was not tagged. My dad used to prune it at 2am for some strange reason.

In one field we have two oaks, about the same size, one tagged, both protected. :D

I've got a little Russell Hobbs one: awful. I'd be better off sucking the dust out of the carpet myself.

It's going in the bin soon and will be replaced with a massive waste of money dyson I should think.

My advice is to leave a pole and grow a creeper up it. If you want to kill it drill a few holes and fill them with a proprietary stump killer or copper sulphate crystals.

The builder I used a few years ago told me to just hammer a copper nail in. Never tried it but apparently it works.

Oh, i use to live our miele till it went for a sevice and cam back with a new head not as good as the old cat and dog one which they no longer do. Every single week i have to sit and cut loads of my hair and big dogs hair out of it which is time consuming and dirty. It is better than the henry though iirc.

We have a Henry. Absolutely wonderful. It's a bit awkward to store and quite heavy to carry around but does the job.
