I grew up in a village outside of a town (100,000 pop) and most jobs I've done have involved driving 25-50 miles each way each day. I hate commuting, all that wasted time - and the fear of how you'd get to work if the car died.

I hate this feeling too. I live in a very small town and commute 30-40 mins depending on traffic. My clutch went (at 24,000 miles on the clock :() in January and it was very difficult. I would love to walk to work.

AFAIK, most NPs have commitments on our time so we couldn't make use of these chances to act as movie extras.
I'd do it, but I've never known any any film that was looking for people like me....

There's a lot of filming down this way, I think they often look for old men though as the demographic with a shortage.

It pays VERY well, for effectively doing nowt.

My clutch is the original and on 112 000 miles. :D

Mind you, car is due for replacement any day now, before anything 'happens!'

Re Hoovers. I have an ancient Panasonic - it was my first new Hoover when I moved into my first house and I think it is about 24. I did look at replacing it last year but took it to bits, repaired it and cleaned everything out and it works great again. When it finally goes to the great hoover store in the sky it will be replaced by another Panasonic.

I have Which access and the best buys are virtually all Miele, Siemens or Bosch.

We have a Henry. Absolutely wonderful. It's a bit awkward to store and quite heavy to carry around but does the job.
    But he's so scary!
When the Outlaws had a holiday cottage, there was a Henry under the stairs. When we arrived there, DD2 would not get out of the car until someone had gone inside and put Henry safely into a cupboard. ;)

To her, giving a machine a face or a 'personality' was the height of adult weirdness, so she wanted nothing to do with it.

Yup, Thomas the Tank Engine got the thumbs down too! :rotfl:

I had a Panasonic that failed after 2 years, then this electrolux that has probably lasted only 3 years.

They really shouldn't fail, I have mainly wood floors and no pet hairs. :(

I suspect that the various cleaners I've had over the years have thrown them around.:o

Henry has an identical female counterpart called Hetty, in pink. There is also a lighter version called James, in yellow.

Miele here which I wouldn't swap for anything... well, vacuum cleaners I mean :A

If you do get a Miele then make sure it has the power head as I never use the other head ever.

You can often get them on offer....

    Linky

That link was just a google search of "Miele offers" and not necessarily the best offers you may find.
