A quick warning to michaels. Obama has been at the singing again. Yes it was still in tune, yes he's a total smoothie and yes he is even more sexy. Just don't ask the wife if she agrees with me, she may answer a tad too quickly again.

I'm greying nicely on the temples now but it doesn't seem to be making me look better :(

Why is it politicians say sensible things about reforming taxation and closing loopholes when running for election but never try and implement them when in power?
    I think....

Have to say I agree :o

Are you or any of the NP checking out the Republican challengers? CNN are televising (yet) another debate at 1am - not worth staying up for perhaps but I intend taping it cos I'm a glutton for punishment.

I think we have had some interesting threads recently like the NHS one. It surprised me that we could have a serious debate as the impression given by politicians is that NHS reform is the 'third rail' of political debate and can not even be discussed but may be it is time for some one to put it out there. One problem is the BBC and newspaper barons who to a large extent control the political debate in this country.

Now i feel underpressure to think of an economy thread and i cannot think of anything terribly interesting....

I am actually faintly relieved that the only republican who could beat obama is actually fairly normal - I was a bit worried that a gun-toting tea-partyer might ride a wave of popular sentiment to the whitehouse. OF course if obama is re-elected there is the spectre of sarah palin standing a good chance in 4 years time

Yes, that's a good one. I haven't started any economic threads recently, but I have been responding to them more than I used to when I got really fed up with the trolling. And lir - you don't need to start a serious economic thread if nothing comes to mind. Replying to the ones that other people start is just as important. :)

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I feel a little sorry for obama, despite not being a supporter i was nevertheless pleased that a black guy could get the gig these days. Sadly, it was a poisoned chalice, would have been for eho ever got in....much like it is here.

Meanwhile, i hear a lot of positivity about mario monti. Which is kinda funny really. No one will admit to likeing or voting berlesconi but he got it, but every one seems to like monti who didn't need a vote.:rotfl:

I'm not sleeping very well at the moment so may end up watching. I can't say I'm very impressed by any of them. In the interest of political equality it's a shame that the Republicans can't put up better candidates.

Because I'm up late a lot at the moment - I can't generally sleep more than 3 hours before I wake up with back ache - I watched an article on Mitt Romney on CBS news (shown on Sky at 12.30am) which said that Romney was hated in Michigan because he voted against the plans to bail out the auto industry. Obama went on to approve the bail out and GM and Ford saved a lot of jobs. GM has just reported a profit. After this Romney went on apparently to vote in favour of bailing out banks. If the debate is from Michigan it will be worth watching just to see the response he gets. My sense is that it won't be warm and fluffy.

Four weeks? My friend was mightily impressed when she insisted on staying with us instead of a hotel and that was the only loo! The next night, he turned off the water and the heating and even I only promised to stay if champagne was purchased. The night after that, we moved out when the back wall went "missing" when I took the kids out.
Well, that'll be the Xmas List sorted out - a book on project management, gantt charts and communication.

    :)
