Coffee, orange juice, toast... then off to the buffet to stack it high. 4 sausages, 4 fried eggs, big spoon of scrambled eggs, big spoon of baked beans, big spoon of tinned tomatoes, two heaps of fried potato pieces, couple of hash browns... and anything else that'd fit and I fancied.
You go girl!
I once went on a dinner date, and she ordered a plate of linguini I think it was. Ate about one tenth of it and then said "I'm full". I paid 12 quid for that
And before anyone says she said 'I'm full" to get out of the date ASAP...she didn't leave right away.PasturesNew wrote: »I am not sure I can explain now - and it's too complex to dig out who said what now and try to explain.
No no, it's all clear. Discussions got mixed up...some were talking about the use of the English 'one', others were discussing the formal/informal addressing in foreign languages.0 -

what's not to like
(i) she's not going to be fat if she only eats 1/10 of her meals
(ii) you get 9/10 of a plate of linguine in addition to your own meal
JACKPOT
you should have proposed on the spot (albeit i suppose your standards may not be as rudimentary as mine).0 -

a few weeks back, UK mail were supposed to be delivering something to us.
Day 1: Tuesday, I am at home, off work. 4pm, leave house, find calling card jammed in the door buzzer outside the front gate. The door buzzer has most certainly not been pressed.
Day 2: OH is at home, off work. Calls UK mail about 11am. Asks when it will arrive. They say "between now and 6pm". Very helpful.
At about 2pm, she gets a call from the driver, who says he is stuck in traffic. At 3pm, she calls UK mail again, who tell her the driver delivered it 2 hours ago??? Lo and behold, there is another calling card jammed in the buzzer switch, which has not been pressed.
Day 3: I can't quite remember, but it went a little bit like day 2 I think, until eventually she cancelled the order...
Why can't people give you a reasonable time estimate. It cannot be beyond a plumber to give you a ring at, say, noon, and let you know what the ETA is likely to be. It would really help if these people could let you know a time before which they will not turn up so you can leave the house for 10 minutes....0 -

Nah, I've hit the jackpot with the one I did propose to. She can eat loads and has the metabolism not to put on the fat.0 -

I commented about anybody using the word 'one' as being posh - and knowing they were for use in certain situations as very posh (as I had NO idea the different words were used differently). Hang on .... did I get it wrong, everybody was talking about the French ... did that woman do it in French? I'd not picked up on that detail!
It never occurred to me that people might have conversations with people in foreign languages as I've never done that.
Sorry Pastures. Now that I read lir's post again, I see there are two "one"s in it, so your comment about the use of "one" in English was just as valid as other people's comments about the use of "the friendly 'you'" in Italian (I think, or possibly French).lostinrates wrote: »I have eaten abbysmally in france and italy....among people who revile british food, ... Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

surely this is terrible as you have to share food with her and cannot eat 90% of everything.
i always encourage the OH to have a starter anywhere we go, and then get some bread on top of that, as i know she will declare "FULL!" after about three bites of her main, and then i can polish off the lot.0 -

They press the bell, your mobile rings, you answer and they hear you through a speakerphone at the door - so they think you're inside.0
