I had one job once that had breakfast meetings. This was a genius idea.... especially as I lived across the road from the hotel where they were held. There were only 3 members of staff and one Director. I used to get to the hotel first/early and have the lot. Coffee, orange juice, toast... then off to the buffet to stack it high. 4 sausages, 4 fried eggs, big spoon of scrambled eggs, big spoon of baked beans, big spoon of tinned tomatoes, two heaps of fried potato pieces, couple of hash browns... and anything else that'd fit and I fancied. (No to mushrooms and bacon).

At one meeting, the rather rude (4rse licking) American pointed out to the Director that he thought it a bit "off" how I piled my plate high and simply scoffed from before they arrived and all the way through the meeting. The Director said "I love it - I get value for money. I pay the same whether you have a croissant or what she has". Ha - that told him :)

Turns out it was common knowledge that transatlantic flights used to fly over mainland Britain (as any resident of Lockerbie knows all too well) and the toilet waste used to be released as an aerosol

That's not nice. How to differentiate between a transatlantic flight passing by and a light drizzle?
It really annoys me when peole eat in supermarkets anyway.....never mind touching eggs. Tbh, ot sure i have seen any one touching eggs, as opposed to looking at them broken.

But how is one ;) supposed to be checking for broken eggs without lifting them or at least wiggle them around to check if they're not sticking to the carton?

I don't mind people touching eggs, its just i don't see people doing it, they seem to open the carton and peer at them.

I do mind people eating (unless a sample or in the cafe) in supermarkets. I find it distasteful and inappropriate.

Ah yes, sorry...I thought it was about the formal/informal you :o

One can only assume I hardly use 'one'.

It was. lir said that somebody used "the friendly you rather than the formal one" meaning "the friendly you rather than the formal you" ie using "one" as in "which 'you' should I use - the friendly one or the formal one?". However, PN thought she meant "the friendly 'you' rather than the formal 'one'".

Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I do that... you can spot the broken ones usually. I've never found one with a hidden broken one that couldn't have been spotted from a glance.

I have absolutely no idea what you just said/meant, however, I think you're saying I was wrong.

I read LIR's post as meaning that the woman would say one of "Would one pass the salt" or "Would you pass the salt", - when LIR thinks she shouldn't have done that and should have used the other one.

I commented about anybody using the word 'one' as being posh - and knowing they were for use in certain situations as very posh (as I had NO idea the different words were used differently). Hang on .... did I get it wrong, everybody was talking about the French ... did that woman do it in French? I'd not picked up on that detail!

It never occurred to me that people might have conversations with people in foreign languages as I've never done that.

I am not sure I can explain now - and it's too complex to dig out who said what now and try to explain. Using one instead of you gets too confusing.
Riddle: How many knots can a NP tie themselves into in one afternoon?

    Yes, I agree.
Often done to keep the kids quiet, but there are plenty of adults also who don't wait until home (or in car) to stuff their gob.

Actually, i had this discussion elsewhere recently. I also disapprove if its children. I think it does them no favours inlearning appropriacy, delayed gratification and good manners.

I know it can be a pain, specially when a lo is tired and hungry but there you go, its how i feel! I have never let a child i have taken care of eat in the supermarket. I have on a few occasions planned lunch at a supermarket before a shop, and i have on very few occasions bought food in a cafe unplanned for at a supermarket, so that the child/children could sit at a table, eat a snack and then be comfortBle shopoing. Not in the short term mse hut my own fault for bad planning and i hope in the long term those decisions served the children well.

I am waiting in for the plumber....a service provided via our insurance. The time i got was between midday and six. So now i reach the awkard part of the day when i should be thinking about getting the geese in, and the chooks, but the plumber hasnt arrived yet, and will probably call asking where we are, and if i am not here they will say i haven't waited in.......
