Properly designed plastic parts can last for ages.
My Hoover vacuum cleaner is mostly plastic and has not broken yet.0 -
We are on our second Dyson. Our DC01, which we still have as a backup, is 10 years old and the only "breakages" were that the wheels went wobbly and the electric cable broke where it passes into the machine. About £5 off eBay for the wheels and a quick rewire job and all was OK again. We now have a DC15 (the Argos £160 one) and it is great, so easy to manouvre. I don't know what you lot do to break them.

I've had a vax and a henry hated them both IMO they don't pick up as well as my dyson. I do agree the build quality could be better, the hose has split twice on mine but it is used daily sometimes more frequently - kids!!! The hose however has been replaced free of charge both times even though it was out of warranty, I emailed customer services and they sent me a new hose no problems and received both within 3 days pretty fantastic customer service.0

well ive repaired loads of dysons, over a period of time, they will last ages if people just spent a short time cleaning the bits(filters etc) this then wouldnt result in the 07s burning out, all i do is wash the side filter every 4 weeks in washing powder, then rinse and leave to dry, whilst using a spare filter for a few days, also every time you empty the bin section tap the top cyclone section with a dust pan brush all the way round this makes any dust that has been sucked up in the chamber drop and fall out clearing the breather holes for the cyclone/motor .i have newdc07 motors for sell if any want them.the reason your dyson is tripping is the top cyclone is blocked. and u will have poor suction/pickup and will prob only run for a few mins. then needs cooling again for it to start again.:dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance:0

I've had my Dyson DCO1 for 7 years and it's still going great. The clip that holds the crevice tool has snapped, but that's no big deal really. The vacuum works really well. It is very heavy though.Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0

I think dyson do a service for £55 which guarantees to get it sorted - check their website.0

I paid £100.79 (yes £100 and 79 pence) for a Dyson DC07 Hepa Silver/White last week, including 5 Year Warranty.*
On that basis, the OP's £75 for a motor is a non-starter (no pun intended!!!)
*This was in 'final reductions' of House of Fraser Sale, so no longer available at that price.
It replaced a DC03 which (apart from being a rather nasty puple and green) was working fine but had a few broken plastic bits after having fallen down the stairs!!!British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0
