Not sure what all the fuss is about.

If people are too thick to read a listing properly..tough.

They will read them more carefully the next time.

    Wrong.

This guy is an irritating little t*at who is trying, and fortunately failing to con people.

He should list the phone as “A realistic dummy phone for children” or something similar.

That way he stops wasting the time of hundreds of ebayers who find his listing and spend time reading it before hopefully realising it is an attempted con.

Being naïve and gullible and not reading listings properly is not a crime and people should not have to suffer financial losses just because they fall for a scam.
  • Are you allowed to tell the bidders that this is a scam? I'd look at the bidding history and drop them a polite note to warn them.

Not sure whether it's allowed or not but i emailed several of the other bidders on the previous item..they all sent me a "thanks for letting us know" message!

If he was an honest ebayer his title would clearly state DUMMY PHONE (or subtitle, but he hides it away in the text.

I have to ask (as you are so pro listing like this)....is it your listing? Or, if not, are your listings written in a similar vein. If so can you put your ebay userid so that I can make sure I never buy anything from you.

Nothing to stop one ebayer contacting another:beer: That's what the Contact this member button is there for after all.

It's not a case of being thick, it's a case of having some faith that someone isn't trying to scam you. A buyer should not have to search for a term, which is deliberately in a different font and colour so as to hide it, in order to check they are not being scammed. In addition to this when forming a contract there must be consensus in idem, a hidden term as to the subject of the contract could quite easily affect this. In addition, the listing of phone features even under the blanket of "these phones normally have..." is misleaidng, factually the item he is selling is not a phone, these specs are as relevant as me selling a phone and listing the specs of my PC.

If you saw the original listings this guy was setting out to directly mislead buyers.

I agree that buyers should read lisitings carefully but if the seller is deliberately making it difficult to spot that an item is effectively a fake then IMO they are not "thick" they are human and being mislead.

Also if 10 people bid on a fake, chances are that only one (the winner) will find out the hard way and be more careful next time.
