Tesco seems to have a good PAYG for calls and texts, but their out of bundle data costs ware - or were last time I looked - horrendous, something like £4 per mb.

Your right but Tesco will allow capping on all contracts so you should not be subject to any bill shock..
  • It seems at the moment with GiffGaff, they simply don't have enough people to answer the flood of questions / requests and technical issues people are reporting.

They also seem to have had quite a few issues of late (Although not everyone has experienced these) including 1) Problem Ports 2) Errors when submitting Ask an Agent Requests 3) Credit/Debit Card Top-Up's 4) Problems buying Goody Bags & 5) Slow or Non-SIM Activations.

It's a shame really, as they were doing so well.. There is also reports on the forums regarding the terms of 'Unlimited' Internet and people who abuse the system... Only time will tell what GiffGaff decide on this.

Things do seem to be cracking up, with GiffGaff not responding to complaints from the forums either.

I have used GiffGaff in the past, and at the time they were fine - But in my own personal view due to all the above I would not use them at the moment until they could turn all this around.

I'm not trying to bash GiffGaff alone because I could do the same with both Orange's & Vodafone's Online Services because these suck and have never been fully working since they installed them (Late 2006 onwards).

I remember when I used O2 in about 2007 although it worked, the online services at the time were not the best and due to the explosion of mobiles texts sometimes were delayed for hours on end. Granted, I know we are now what 5 years on but at least they did invest in capacity at the time, and the online services do work and you can at least get your enquiries resolved with Customer Services. Again - Even O2 are not perfect, they do have the worse 3G Coverage than any other, but I hope with 4G this will improve.

Swings & Roundabouts I guess - This is my thoughts and experience, others might have completely different views.. Afterall, it is a message board at the end of the day! :)

£1 of debt is too much for me!
  • well we have been with GG for over a year now yes we had a few teething probs like loosing signal strength. Have to say tho am more than happy with it, has saved an absolute fortune. But i havent had reason to get in touch with CS so cannot comment on that perhaps i may have a different opinion if had done, but so far a thumbs up from us.
  • Although my family have been using GG for a while now without issues I do feel for those who get no replies or help from GG.

There needs to be a facility to escalate issues so that something is done.

I may open up a thread on GG and point it to this thread.
  • I am not sure what GiffGaff's target audience is but I get a feeling it is not targetted at old fogeys like mw who assume there will be an element of service when things go wrong. The moment you dare to even make a complaint your thread gets bombarded with loads of sycophants who tell you to "go elsewhere". They then begin to awared each other this Kudos and it seems many member's responses in the forum are cut and paste efforts in order to maximize their posting volume to either climb the ranking or accumulate cashback. It seems a bit flawed really.

I have ven had reponses telling me to "go elsewhere" and suggesting that I don'e even bother chasing for the money that GiffGaff have taken for no services rendered. So these people must have more money than sense and it shows.

I know you have a ranking on MSE but the responses seem far better quality and people do not seem in a race to the top.

Thats rather typical of forums i am afraid .

The situation where you get CS handed to morons is never going to work as GiffGaff user base has expanded and presumely moved on from the more tech minded user to a broader cross section that includes Old Gits that don't know what they are doing and expect more than what GiffGaff is currently offering . Of course their are other more technically minded Old Gits who invested all this malarkey in the first place .

The way I see it is that a forum is a useful addition to a proper customer service where people can share experiences and get questions answered, particularly for individual issues.

They are also useful for "hobby" activities, but a main stream service such as a mobile phone network should be properly staffed, unless, of course, you don't see it as a main stream activity.

Thinking back to when UNIX and SKYPE first came out and tended to be the province of the geeks and anorak communities - I am not attempting to be disparaging here, just can't think of any other words that convey the image - these were not the main stream and there was a certain pathfinder element in using them. Things have move on a pace and in my view, mobile phone services are now essential and I would not wish to trust any essential service to a semi-amateur company just to save peanuts.
  • The customer forum is ok when someone is online whom knows what they are talking about but the issue i found out is they earn money for free which makes many !!!!!!!!!!s posting rubbish just to earn more money. Then you get the ones saying everything is fantastic whilst flogging sims to earn money. Nothing is ever good to be true I was suggest read the forums in full and make a decision yourself to join or not. But afraid after my experince will certainly not be joining this dreadful network.

I havent had a problem with giffgaff. i find if you post a question on their forums you get loads of answers very quickly. One or two are usually quite helpful.
  • I've sent a message to an Agent on GG suggesting one of their Managers or Agents registers on MSE in order that they can help people.

    Let's see if anything happens.
