Why not hit the spam button on each post?

When you do, a message pops up saying......................

Thank you for reporting this as spam. If others agree and report it too,
it will be deleted untill the forum team can check it.

This tells me if enough members hit this button, the message will be deleted at any time of the day or night. You can't blame the team if members do not use the tools the team give us.
This brings up the question of spambot weariness, when faced with over 100 posts from the same source do you go to every one and hit the spam button?
I know I dont, I do maybe a few of them but I get fed up of this as they seem to appear just as quick as I report them.

Would it be better if 100 people reported the first of these posts as spam or 5 people report for each of them?
  • ps just saw the post above mine, hope no-one is sitting with me, I'm in my jammies having my breakfast, hope thats okay :)
  • Ask them if they have a link to the liverpool game?

Does this site have to be whiter than white though?

It spends a lot of time not being happy with big business etc People saying they do not have equal rights etc.

So if they ban spam emails accounts etc you may be in danger of a eg newspaper having a go at this website banning people for nothing. So they have to be quite carefully in which post they remove and keep.
Okay their will be blatant spam and abuse, but their will be time when they probably have to think things through more carefully.

Just because they don't seem to do anything about your particular problem doesn't mean they don't do anything. Unless you have been watching the thread/board which they've done things on you might not notice.

I've definitely seen a load of threads have posts removed from them, be completely removed or be moved to another board. I've seen them post asking people to take the threads in another direction.

Unless you are sitting with that board guide or admin then you don't know what they are doing.

yes i have done, i reported and pressed the spam button and the actual relevant board guide was online reading another thread completely ignoring their notifications and then going offline

ive worked on vb boards for over ten years, im also aware of search engine opimisation which is what is occuring here
  • I reported spam today.

May be they had to go to work etc.
As other have mentioned they are not getting paid for this.

The whole point is not in reporting SPAM, but in stopping it ever appearing.

    Same IP Address

    $$ in title and body

    New posters / name

    Postings overnight

Multiple postings with the same title / content

are all indicators of SPAM that could be held back for moderation before publication, automatically.

A voice of reason, noone seems to realise that on a forum where people know what they are doing, there won't be spam ever!

Maybe thats the difference between voluntary guides and people who o it for a living? I dont think it is relevant though, if people want to be board guides they should do the job, voluntary or not. If they don;t need to do the job properly because they dont get paid for it then why have them at all?

some of his suggestions are possible. However the best thing about this forum is that a new poster can post a question and receive an answer within minutes. If all new posters posts had to be approved then there would be a sizeable delay in this and I think the forum would lose its popularity.

In addition it looks like there are only main 4 forum staff(based on the photo) and this forum has over a million posters I think so they would be swamped if they had to approve all posts that fit the OP's requirements.

Some of his ideas are good though and should be implemented if possible

  • I agree that particular point is not needed but to prevent repeat IP's posting (as generally they will be the same) then this alone would make a huge difference.
