Hello,
I am new to mystery shopping and just signed up to a couple of companies. I have done a few jobs this month, but I have no idea when it comes to tax.
I will probably be doing no more than £30 (fees + reimbursement) worth of work.
Do I just need a low earnings certificate? etc
Where do I begin?
Cheers

In short
1. Register as self employed with HMRC
2. If you don't expect to earn over £5000 per year and you pay NI through another means then you can apply for a Small Earning Certificate so you don't pay NI.
3. From April 6th 2012 you'll need to complete your tax return for any work done from 6th April 2011-5th April 2012. The deadline for this is 31st Jan 2013 (i.e next year).0 -
It is actually 45p a mile so the claim is £4.50. Did one today at exactly that mileage!

Im all for helping people but when people come on with 1 post and clearly havent read the title, the first page or anything else, it slightly aggrieves me and does make it understandable why people are reluctant to hand good companies etc on a plate to lurkers and new posters,
i found all the companies bar 1 (that was referred in a pm from a kind member when i referred them to another) that I work with through my own research and before i even found this thread, despite being a forum member for years.
I just wish people would try and find things out for them selves, that how education works beyond secondary school as it will be far more beneficial and rewarding than just expecting every thing to be handed out on a plate.
This rant doesnt apply to odd questions or even questions from actively participating members, you give some, you get some back, it just seems there are a lot of people who take and dont give
any how friday night rant over, hustle is starting soon0 -
I agree whitelabel. Research and attention to detail is key to this line of work. Reading the first page answers a million questions. Go back a couple of threads make yourself a brew sit down and give an evening to finding out what it's all about. (it's more than an evening that's how long it took me to get all sorted with gyp alone)
Gotta put it in to get it out.Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk

Oh the gap manuals... how I remember them fondly. All credit to gap though, I went 20 miles out of my way today to do two jobs in the same place as the premiums were so good. Pleasing.
All go with eDigital! Back on the holiday surveys - must have got about 12.
And praise be to GR - after a dead January, I now have 4 jobs in 5 days at the start of February. Wonderful0 -
There's a Post Office visit and it says that it must be done "Evening (After 17:30)". Aren't post offices closed after this time?

I did a Post Office Local that's open from 7.00am - 9.00pm 7days a week, limited services though.0

Stamp locations can vary 5:30 is generally last pick up... but some of them stay open later.0

I emailed about a Gap burger job with a premium that was available near me on Monday but I couldn't pick up. Discovered I have been there too often in the past year - hadn't realised you could only go there 8 times in 365 days - I can go there again on February 15th :rotfl:0

I got caught out with that the first year I started. Then had to sit and watch as the fees got higher and higher for my local that I couldn't do for another 3 months.
Quick question. How are RE for closed shop visits? Did one yesterday that I took on a phone call. Advised the caller that I wasn't sure if the shop was still open but got an increased fee with assurances that I would still get the fee even if it was closed. After entering the 'unable to complete visit' option and why, the whole assignment has vanished with no record of it. Have just emailed them with a photo of the closed shop.
I know that this probably been discussed before on the forum but can't find it.0
