So Ryanair and Easyjet should automatically add the cost of baggage, a hotdog, a couple of double bullseye vodies , a scratch card and a booking admin fee before the payment page ?
Why not a 5 star hotel, airport parking, and a taxi to the hotel, just in case an idiot thinks that should all be included in the headline price.
    But no debit card fees.

I am also including charges that are very difficult or cumbersome to avoid as well.

    So not unavoidable then?

I don't think so - it depends on the context. Thomson are a package holiday company so (arguably) the default should be they offer a full package, ie including transfers and a baggage allowance per passenger. Maybe even in-flight meals as these were always part of a traditional package.

Ryanair and Easyjet are no frills airlines so (arguably) the default should be they offer a minimal package which customers add onto as they choose

So to quote a price for a minimal package and then give the customer the option to add stuff they want seems fair enough.

In many cases, yes, unavoidable, particularly in the case of Visa Electron being the only free option, because there is a significant lead time to obtain a Visa Electron card, during which time the fare will almost certainly rise.

So if you already have one, it is still unavoidable then?

Yes. As long as you can pay using normal methods without incurring additional charges.

No, and that's why I say "in many cases". There's only one bank that still issues Visa Electron cards.

Ryanair and Easyjet are budget airlines, not package holiday companies.

Thomson are a package holiday company. I went into the "holidays" section of their website, not the "flights". So they quoted me for a package holiday. Funnily enough, I expect a "package holiday" to include accomodation and transfers. And was quite pleased they gave me the option to have discounts for not needing parts of that package.
  • I regularly travelled with EasyJet using the Visa Electron card. I mainly booked one-way flights. If a flight was advertised at say £43.99 then that was all I paid. Now, it seems every flight I 'might' book in the future I have to add £9.00 to the advertised price. This £9.00 is clearly unavoidable. I would rather not know about this so-called £9.00 'admin fee' and have a flight advertised at £52.99.

If you buy 18 flights at £43.99 each in one booking, that's £9 admin for that booking with a debit card, so that's 50p admin per flight.
