Claiming DLA and Esa

If your really suffering from depression I'd advise to get professional help and then they help you with what anti depressants would work best for you and support you with your ESA application (But you need to be diagnosed and have med notes)
If you do get on ESA for ESA first stage you need to have medical notes from the doctor saying you cannot work (I needed 3 before they put me on the main phase, but I am very ill, sometimes you need over 4) And this is over a period of months. Then you will have to go to a meeting to see one of their doctors who will ask you questions etc and then they will score you points depending on how you are. For me I could not go to meet the doctor for the medical so she came to my house and within a few minutes I had already scored enough points for her to say you got the clear from me, your clearly not well to work at all etc (But of course decision is not up to the doctor with the medical they just send a report, decision is higher up)
So in summary, your 18, still young, I was out living life at that age as my problems did not come until the last few years, get help there is people out there, look for people like Framework and ask them to put you into the right people so you can talk about your anxiety/depression and how to deal with it and get better.
Well if what your saying is true it looks like I have no chance if I need medical notes just for ESA..I am going to get help and I hope it works because I dont want to be in this situation where people judge me and think I want to live a life on benefits while being depressed, so very wrong.
I dont know what I am going to do if I can not claim either, I will have no money what so ever and by the sounds of it I will not be entitled to anything since I have no medical records0 -

You may feel as though you are suffering, but you need to do something to try to help yourself. People like my son will never be able to work, due to the extent of his disabilities and his care and mobility needs - yet you have a chance to work, even if you haven't found something yet.
Additional money is always welcome, but benefits are not always as generous as people think. You are young, you could train to have a career, which would give you more money, greater self esteem, more confidence, and a chance not to rely on benefits. You have far more advantages than my son and the children of many of my friends. Make the most of them.
I haven't gone because I have struggled to, its very hard for me, and I want a career I do not want a life on benefits.
I just dont understand why everyone is saying I can not claim it yet my friend is claiming and her problems are a lot better than mine?..0 -
Stop acting so idiotic towards me, when you live on 200 pound a month and have bills to pay, water to pay its hard so yes, more money would be nice and make life a little bit easier! And it would be great to get some support from what I am suffering from! Before you point fingers, make sure your hands are clean !;)0

You'll still be able to claim JSA so you'll be no worse off than you are now.
I think you should have more concern on getting help to make a recovery rather than getting extra money. With any luck you may have absolutely no reason to claim any sickness benefits in a month or so.0 -
It makes sense that medical notes would be needed for claiming ESA. After all, it is a benefit for people who are too unwell to work. If you are unwell to that extent, then you should see a doctor. ESA won't just be handed out because you say you are depressed, and from your posts it doesn't sound as though you have been diagnosed.
Also, for ESA you are likely to have a medical. Again, I think this is reasonable, although I know that many people are failed unfairly (according to these boards - I have no direct experience of this myself, as my son is too young). Are you likely to pass a medical?0 -

The not having medical records is a problem. I had none either... so appeared out of nowhere to NHS aged 35 with a barrage of problems it seemed. I was able to get ESA at highest rate about a year later... and a rather poor award of DLA which I'm hoping to change. Seeking help is the first step here according to the mainstream... I'm not so convinced... seeking help has made me worse... as has the anxiety and troubles regarding the benefits. I was probably better off suffering in silence.... so I would always add a cautionary tale to the sensible advice...lol"Do not attribute to conspiracy what can adequately be explained by incompetence" - rogerblack0 -

What does a medical involve? I have heard about them but no idea what they do?0 -

You do have a chance if doctors say you can't work and give you med notes. It don't matter if you can't get the med notes back dated, (Unless you can prove to docs you was ill months ago some how) you just need to fill in the form but get help from professionals such as Framework etc to make sure it's done right.0 -

I wont be able to claim JSA because I am unable to work.0 -

Perhaps you do not know the extent of your friend's problems. Perhaps your friend has not been entirely honest when filling in the forms.
Getting DLA for depression is not likely to be easy, especially as you have not mentioned any care needs.0
