Erm, sorry but it's not a "stupid" thing to say, maybe I think what you said is "stupid"?
Maybe a 2 hour each way commute is considered normal in London (I'm guessing that's where you work), but in the rest of the country it isn't.
I live in Glasgow and in all of my working life, I don't think I've known anyone who travels for 2 hours to get to work.0 -
How long would it take to drive? If its quicker why not start driving lessons now before the move? Because if you cant drive, as you have now found out, your options are limited to that of often bad public transport - and you are also limiting your options if you do look for a new job.
Good advice, was going to suggest this myself.0 -

Many people commute 2 hours each way everyday,.
Data from the Office for National Statistics shows, 75% of people live less than half an hour from their place of employment (Door to Door). Of this 75%, 46% are less than 15 minutes from work.0 -

Hate to disagree. I've done that sort of commute not only around the London area but also Newcastle, the W Midlands and Norwich. You can not always live in the city that your job is in and it IS pretty common to have up to a 2 hour commute each way. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. It is a stupid thing to say when clearly - people DO travel 2 hours work.
You said 'no they don't' when clearly you meant 'no I don't'...or 'I've never met anyone in my life that does'.
I've never lived or worked in London and I have commuted for 2 hours in several jobs; so clearly - people also do this outside of London. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

I didn't say people DON'T travel 2 hours to get to work. I said it's not a common occurance, outside of London.
What is your definition of "many"?0 -

And I don't know anyone who takes two hours to get from East Leeds to Halifax. In case it isn't already obvious, the OP isn't the only one who lives in the area! Note that when provided with the information and suggestions as to how to make the commute possible, then the OP changes the goalposts. If it is impossible to get to work, why not say that at the outset? Being impossible because there is no public transport is rather different than "it takes a long time". To be honest, I am not clear what the OP wants, but I suspect that it is a question that they haven't asked, and that is the actual sticking point. The OP doesn't want to be told how to make it work, so I presume the OP is really trying to argue something else. Since they haven't let us into what it is they really want, then it is pointless trying to answer the question.0 -

Exactly. The OP wan't people to agree with her and tell her that her employers are behaving dreadfully.
OP........ at the end of the day, you need to decide if your job is worth travelling 4 hours each day for. Only you can make that decision.
Personally there is no way I would undertake that commute unless I had NO other options employment wise.
You're obviously not happy at all about this travelling so I'd suggest you start looking for something closer to home asap.0 -

No, you didn't. You said...in answer to 'many people commute 2 hours each way' you categorically said...19lottie82 wrote: »No they don't.
Now, forgive me but if 'no they don't' doesn't mean 'no they don't' then please, explain what 'no they don't' actually means....If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

many is lots. They didn't say most, or all, or the majority... just many and you argued that they were wrong.0
