reaches operating temperature.?? how will i know what operating temperature is? and how do you measure gas rate at meter? sorry for silly questions

As you did in your 5 min experiment.

Note exact meter reading using the 3 red digits as well and run hot water for, say, 15 minutes.

For it to be at the nominal gas flow rate of 4 cubic metres an hour(which is 44.4kWh) in 15 minutes it should have used 1 cubic metre(11.05kWh)

ok will run the hot water for 15 mins and post results also been told to do same for 1 minute,
also been told to turn heating on for 2 mins take reading then next 2 mins also

is all this correct??? i will post readings here...

The more data the better. The longer the run, potentially the more accurate - except - if the boiler modulates down. So readings every 2 minutes (over 15 minutes) to detect that.

As said above it is just arithmetic. time and consumption to work out rate.

Ok done the hot water test.
    .257 was reading before start
    .311 was after 1 minute
    .368 was after 2 mins

That's 3.33m^3/hour or 37kW. Consistent with the boiler DHW output rating.

Now you need an explanation for, or perhaps dismiss as an unreliable result, your original "5 minute" test.

hi guys result of heating test,.... the heatung had been off 30 mins so not total cold.... room temp was 14 degrees so advanced to 20

    reading 08370.371
    1 min .398
    2 min .442
    3 min .489
    4 min .534
    5 min .580

when i went in house the heating was on yet it was outwith the set times, heating guy says that if the boiler gets cold it will kick in. i checked the setting on the boiler and displays shows 33 degrees on front.

i checked the ch output by info button and plus and it shows 28kw . i believe its meant to self regulate however others have mentioned to manually change to 16 approx is this correct

There is no point doing a heating test as the boiler will use most gas when trying to satisfy the hot water requirement. It is rated at a max of 37kW for hot water and only a max of 28kW for central heating.

So it looks like your first test was flawed or you were just being anal.

first test last week are u talking about was flawed?

i never ran the water and turned heating on at same time.today.. both figs i quoted for the water and heating were done at different times.

i have also noticed that heating comes on outwith the set times due to boiler being cold.... for the record i took a record last night at 430pm it was 8357-921 and today 8370-257 at 1pm and only settig should have kicked in was last night for hour and this morning for hour....so 12 units used.

yes i may be getting anal but hen this bill comes in i will have reason bearing in mind its empty in addition if you knew what i have been thru since october with this house you would fully understand why i am verging on this way

    So that's about £4.

Your initial point was that the boiler was using more gas than its design capability.

The only way to check this is by having the Hot water taps running all the time you are checking the consumption on the meter.

It will then be on its maximum output, and hence maximum consumption. This is 4 cubic metres an hour - so 0.067 every minute.
i have also noticed that heating comes on outwith the set times due to boiler being cold....

Boilers/CH installations have a frost stat which is designed to do just that - it is normally set at about 4C.
