Are the last three digits in red or in a red box? Ignore any reads in red or red boxes or after the decimal point, these are NOT used for billing. Only the digits BEFORE the decimal point are used for billing!

You cannot ignore them in this context. He is trying to work out accurate consumption over a very short period, so it is perfect valid to use the fractions of a gas unit.

i.e. a reading changing from 01234.001 to 01234.999 means he has used 11kWh.

    Billing is another matter

i have chased up the engineer as hes still to fill in the commision report and benchmark...... how can i tell if its on that setting???

You can't without an accurate gas meter. Except your "5 minute test" indicated 90kW gas rate except that is impossible for the boiler. The heat exchanger and controls just won't allow it.

So, either the meter *is* faulty, *or* your "5 minute test" was flawed. The obvious next step is another accurately timed test from cold or an accurately timed hot water delivery test.

It seems you are experiencing the joys of modern efficient combi boiler heating.

Your boiler 37Kw=126,000 Btu/Hr Nice new combi
My boiler total input 38,000Btu/hr conventional wall boiler
My total spend on gas/elec a month £45

Just turn the tap on and see it spin faster..
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

That's 90kW per hour! Must have a turbo setting on it...

Perhaps the flue has an after-burner fitted?

so is it a boiler fault or more likely the meter ???... im totally lost... called npower they dont have account number for me yet so cant look into it.

You can check the gas rate easily enough yourself.

    5.9.3 Checking the gas rate
The boiler is fitted with a fully modulating automatic gas valve which ensures that the precise air/gas ratio is provided under all operating conditions.
The gas rate has been set during production and does not require adjustment.
The gas rate of the boiler should be checked with the front case fitted as follows:
    • Activate full gas rate mode by simultaneously pressing the “+” and “–” buttons on the display system (for ecoTEC combination boilers fully open the hot water tap to maximum water flow rate).
    • Wait at least 5 minutes, or until the boiler has reached its operating temperature.
    • With all other gas appliances turned off measure the gas rate at the gas meter. Check that the gas rate is as stated in Table 5.1.

    ecoTEC plus 837 nominal gas rate - 4.00 cu M / hour

It says it in the quote. Turn on a hot tap to max flow wait 5 mins measure gas flow.

measure gas flow is time the time it takes for the meter to tick over. work out gas flow per hour.
