Valiant 837..... my gas metre is racing

Has the supply been off while the refurb has been taking place? Otherwise the coincidence of CH install and meter fault developing simultaneously seems unlikely.
supply has been off since 10th october and went live again on 30th december i did get lead pipe replacement carried out and the contractors hit the gas main and gas board had to come out to repair however the repair was before the meter so should not affect it in any way.
i got new boiler, radiators and 15mm pipe throughout0 -
Well you are right to be concerned but wrong to make the case based on a single set of readings.meter readings?
ok here we go--- fitted 30/12 reading 8240
7/1 reading 8328 thats set 6.30am to 8.30am, 4.30 to 10pm
equates to 88 units in 8 days based on when took reading..... 11 units a day
8/1- 8331.375 and that was it on only 630am to 830am
since 8th its been on the setting to come on if falls below 5 degrees...... when i went uo today it was sitting at 8343.100 mind you wife was in for 20 mins last night and turned heating on and tep not fallen below 5 degrees
toinght i turned on at 6.03pm it was 8343.100 and by 6.08pm it was 8343.780
its now set back to kicking in if below 5 degrees0 -
Turn a hot tap on full and see how much gas (from the meter readings) it uses in 1 min. I would guess about 0.12m3.
This boiler will need, or use, 4m3/hr when flat out for hot water.
How big is your home? I would doubt very much you need the boiler ch output set to more than 18kw0 -

its a 2/3 bedroom bungalow all on one level0 -
In that case I would set the ch output to between 12/15 kw (d0 setting)
i have chased up the engineer as hes still to fill in the commision report and benchmark...... how can i tell if its on that setting??? im going up to house in 20 mins or ss so wil look at the boiler itself but dont know where to start .... dont want to tell heating guy what to do...... been texting him tonight and reckon hes getting cheesed off0 -
I have a large combi and I measure my useage.
Mine is a 35KW so similar to yours.
When I turn mine on with the temp below 5c it will use 2.6m3 in the first hour getting the system up to temp, then 1.6m3 the next hour then when the house is up to temp it will use 0.6m3 keeping the house to temp.
So if I was you over the weekend I would go out for the day with the boiler turned off and then when you get back take a reading of the gas and then take another reading every hour, if the boiler settles down and uses .5 to .8m3 per hour after a few hours then I would say that is normal.
Ps is the boiler in the house or outside in the garage or loft. i.e is it inside the heat envelope that you are heating.
Edit: Also my meter goes crazy when the boiler is first turned on but when it modulates it just ticks over slowly.0 -
