Keep chasing it up, working for an insurance company its the best advice I can give you, insurance companies only keep so much tracking on a claim so the more you chase the quicker you will get someone out, also if its affecting your health then tell them.

You should not be staying in the house if it is causing you health problems.

    Who are you insured with?

No problems I hope you get it sorted soon, with pretty serious water damage they should be sending someone asap. Its always worth double checking if you don't hear within 24 hours from the assessor as that's the usual timescales.

I know its a pain ringing in, especially at the moment most insurers are quite busy due to the storms.
But its worth it just incase a fax or email hasn't been sent properly etc, takes the worry from you. Also request for the company details and telephone number so you can chase them directly.

Make sure you take the name of everyone you speak to and advise them of the health problems too.

    Best of luck x
  • If you are running a business from home and the insurance company doesn't know please tell them because you'd be commiting fraud if you didn't.

This is a good point - though most insurance companies would not take into account if it was just clerical work - if you are running a fireworks factory or a nightclub in your garage then they may want to know however :D

Believe me it is best to tell them than for them to find out on their own.

Yes we will be sure to let them know, its only a small business as im a SAHM but non the less still a small dent in my takings.didnt think to mention it as it was only my printer that got ruined that is needed but thanx for the heads up :)
  • The smell isn't going to disappear with a phone call...it'll be around for weeks.

If it is a business it is something that should really have been mentioned at policy inception. As I said if it is just clerical work most insurers would be fine with it.

No we expected a call from an assessor like we was told we would be on the day it happened to let us know when someone would be out to assess the damage

    Did you?

My neighbours had an escape of water last January (2011). Their house STILL isn't sorted.

Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.
