Does your hair affect how you feel?

  • I have lost some hair - gone a bit thin on top over the past few years. I have had times when I feel quite upset about it, but mostly I have now accepted that it's no big deal. It's not due to any illness or diesease, there are far worse things that can happen.
If I lose too much I'll get a wig or weat hats all the time!
  • Am getting my hair bleached and cropped in three and a half hours time so am feeling :rotfl:

I obviously had a bad hair night last night, as I woke up with a 'Dougall' (Magic Roundabout) hairstyle - all falling forward and into my eyes.

Fortunately today was haircut day, but if ever I needed a reminder of how awful I look with a fringe, I've had it! :rotfl:

Back when I was about 10 my sister had a Saturday job washing heads in a hairdressers. In her wisdom my Mum let her practice on me. My sister gave me a perm (tight!) and then cut my hair. It was cut back to the hairline and there was absolutely no movement in it at all. It was like a tight afro. I was in such a state. Everyone (well, my family) told me it was nice! I cried for hours. Mum collected me from school a couple of days after and said she'd booked for us (Mum, Dad and me - no sister!) to go away as I was so upset and we went on the Saturday and I got off school for the week. I wore polo necks all that summer because I hated my hair being up the back of my neck.

It was really bad. My sister ended up having her own salon. I've had free hairdos ever since. I think I deserved it!

Personally I'm a bit OCD about my hair and "check it" several times a day & wouldn't dream of leaving the house without spending 40 mins on it.

I really try not to think about how much I spend per month on premium haircare,my latest indulgence is Kerastase Elixir ultime which is about £30 for a tiny 125mls:eek: Bizarrely I'd probably spend more on a hair product/cut than a pair of shoes or item of clothing...

IMO ,because you "wear" your hair everyday ,its worth spending a bit of time and money on and just wouldn't feel dressed unless if I'd just got up,brushed and left the house.

hair is so important to confidence. Bit of an over-statement, but hope you get my drift.
I have a fringe. If its but even a milimetre too much, it looks horrible and I feel horrible abnd end up clipping the fringe up.

I've had my fair share of hair disasters in my time and it can get you down when it doesn't look/feel right to you. A hairstyle is such a major part of how we look and are percieved by others.

I now have a great hairdresser that I am very happy with. I think I was a big challenge to him at first as I have very long, curly, red hair. Not the easiest stuff to tame and get looking good. Lots of hairdressers have no idea how to dry and style curly hair. Thanks to him I can now style it curly, wavy or dead straight.

Unfortunately and this is not very mse, it does seem that if you want to like your locks sometimes you have to pay out and use someone very skilled.

On occassions when I have tried to skimp, I have come away looking like a brush and had to do it all again when I got home.
  • Hair is so important to confidence for women. I know that my friends and colleagues all feel better about themselves when they feel good about their hair.

I lost mine at the age of 13 and, unfortunately, it's never grown back. It felt like the worst thing in the world because people do stare at you, they do pity you and they do laugh at you or taunt you (well, children and teenagers do and particularly immature colleagues have :)). I've even overheard people say, with the best of intentions, 'Oh isn't she so brave?' and, for me, that just sums other people's attitudes up. However good any wig I've ever worn is, it always looks wiggy to me, especially in photos. Friends of mine say, oh wouldn't it be great wearing a wig every day and changing styles and colours as often as you want and some have even done it, but the difference is that they have some sort of choice in the matter. For me, it would be just drawing even more attention to it. I had a great boyfriend for seven years who was supportive and accepting of it but, to be honest, most people run a mile.

I felt very down about it for so long because it happened just at the point where image and being 'normal' was most important to a teenaged girl, now I'm older I'm able to appreciate that I didn't lose my hair through cancer and that I'm otherwise well.

Have you had any recent disasters that have bothered you?
Yep - when I had chemo and half my hair fell out. Result: a bad hair year
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
