Growurown - I'm with you in your awe of SAAC, I too need to get on top of the organisational side of things before they get on top of me. I've been looking at iPhone apps for budgeting but haven't found one I love yet. Anyone got any recommendations? I've been much more a pen and paper person up until now. Or maybe someone knows of an online source for good spreadsheets? Sorry if this is already in the thread somewhere, my brain is overloading on information at the minute so bits are bound to fall out.

I had a success yesterday with HSBC. I had to ask them to close the current account that I would normally take my loan payments from, having previously requested this some years ago they told me I couldn't. So I was worried that this time I'd get the same response and then start incurring charges on the one account I was in credit in. But they were really helpful and once I explained in branch why I needed it closed, she didn't ask any questions and just went ahead and did it...so that was a bit of a YAY moment.

My Halifax overdraft and credit card are starting to add on the charges, as my DMP has only started they haven't received any payment yet so this is to be expected. But I'm wondering should I call them and explain or just let CCCS deal with it for now? Not sure which is the best to do.
I've spoken to a DR and they're 'keeping an eye' on me apparently. I'm also on the waiting list for counselling although I'm not holding my breath for that.

BR look after yourself please! Depression and stress is so much more common than people let on, I got signed off work last year for nearly 3 weeks because of it and at first I was so embarassed to tell my friends as I felt like I was losing it. But when I started leaning on those around me who wanted to help I realised that some of my friends had been through similar and that was a real comfort to me.

To everyone who is feeling a bit frazzled today, I'm sending you a big hug!
  • Regarding my earlier post about not being able to cancel my loan direct debit as it is the smae bank I bank with, I've just got off the phone with CCCS and they said to withdraw all my excess money and the bank will take the money from my overdraft. I will still owe them but the overdraft will go down as a debt and I will have the money to put elsewhere for my emergency fund. This brings me onto my next question.... If I am to withdraw all excess money not being used for direct debits, there is a £500 withdrawal limit per day on my card, is that £500 per day for the account, or for each card holder? (In reality we want to take £700 out.)

    Good move

Could you withdraw today and tomorrow?

Sounds like thingsa are moving in the right direction for you. I use simple excel spreadsheets and they work a treat! Each to their own :)

  • Urgh well, took the car to the garage *again* today and they tell me that the issue we've got now isn't spark plugs as they'd thought when it happened before Christmas but actually an exhaust valve which apparently means they have to strip the engine or something to get to it. £250!! _pale_
I've rung CCCS who were already taken a reduced payment on the 10th due to the repairs needed after the MOT (different garage though) and luckily they've agreed not to take a payment at all this month so that we can get the car fixed. However, this means a month of token payments, which is a pain in the bum as the DPM only started last month. Hope the preditors don't kick off too much :(

  • Hi Tiney,

I am using an ipad app, which I am assuming you may also be able to get for the iphone. It is called Pocket Expense. If i remember rightly there is free version, but I think I paid about £3.99 for the more detailed one and I am loving it. It so easy to use and has just enough detail without blinding you with science.

    Hope this helps.

BR, please look after yourself. Its very easy to feel very alone in this situation and spiral into depression, been there done that and am coming out of the other side hopefully. We are all here to listen should you need any support at all. Take Care x

Thanks for that Pinot. I'll check it out!!

Also some light entertainment for people to check out, I watched Superscrimpers on C4 last night. There are some good tips in their for money saving ideas, some fun, some sensible, definitely worth a watch.

Thanks hon. I've now started a diary which might help.
Although Mr BR are in this together, I'm the one that worries (or at least shows it/voices it) and it's hard as I can't offload to him much as it then makes him worry about me on top of everything else.

I really think the diary will help BR, mine certainly has helped me. I will have hunt for it and then we can keep an eye on you !!!:D

Tiney, I watched Superscrimpers last night as well, my daughter was fascinated by the man making butter in the jam jar and I thought the lady making crayons was a really good idea as well. Although my girls are older now I think I will be giving that one a go, just for the hell of it ! :rotfl:

    Afternoon everyone
well after posting the above a couple of weeks ago i spent approx a week feel sick crying and generally feeling like my life might as well just end as we had messed up our childrens futures. However last week came to my senses and decided i needed to fight back and i could do a dmp myself, we accept we got ourselves into this mess and that we need to pay it back but it will have to be at a rate we can afford and the creditors will just have to accept that.
So last week i sent letters to all creditors about the fact we were getting advice and looking to start a dmp and asked them to hold charges etc for at least 30 days, i then sorted bank accounts out and have cancelled DD and plan to send out offers this week and ask for standing order details. I feel so much better and have to thank all the people on these boards thank you as you have all helped me to get to this point.

Well done, at least you can now manage yourself and respond to any creditor skullduggery to suit.
There are better things in life than worrying about money…like nailing a jelly to a tree for example.

I use a simple spreadsheet too, you must record everything on it tho. So any incomings, then all your direct debits/mortgage/DMP payment/savings. Then you should have money to live on, which will decrease as you spend... prob not best way of doing it but works for me.

Sure Martin has one on here too....
