DMP & Mutual Support Thread - Part 8

  • Self managed DMP is not for everyone, but I personally have no problem discussing / negotiating with my creditors :)
I have never been with CCCS or pay plan but both have really good reviews, initially I thought if I can't sort it myself I will go with one of these charity's, however all my creditors (of which there are many ) have stopped interest and many have passed me onto DCA's.

So far I have had no issues (with the exception of NDS which is now been passed over and all going well) with anyone, although I think over the next couple of weeks this may change.

But the car needed work doing on it, this was not a luxury, it's a necessity!!

I have long since stopped losing sleep over my debt (which is £60k ish) the best thing I did was self manage my DMP...

Enjoy your Sunday evening people :)

    Well done

Whats the duration of your dmp expected to be?

  • Good morning fellow DMPers :D

Well it's Monday again already but I don't mind too much as it's the last week of the month so that means CCCS payments go out on Thursday and it's pay day on Friday :j

Welcome to anyone new who has just joined us and hello to anybody who is lurking but hasn't posted yet :hello:

Hope to have a couple of debts drop down into the next lot of thousands this month, so am looking forward to updating my siganture. I know a few people here will be making having their first CCCS payment go out to their creditors this week and a few more will be making their first payment to CCCS next week so let's all celebrate our successes :T

And of course, we are all here to listen and offer support, help and advice if things aren't going too well :A

Have a super day everyone :)

We are just starting the DMP with CCCS. All letters went out and we've sent everything that CCCS needs. Our creditors on the whole have been fine. However, Creation Finance has been calling every single day although we called them when we started, sent our letter with the token payment and so on. I finally told them to stop the harassment. Our son has special needs and I am going to have to work part time, which I told CCCS. I was told even with the reduced hours we have enough surplus to pay our creditors. :)

It was a real worry as our son has just turned 4 and we've been trying to sort things out for him since he was 2 years old. For the first time we are being heard after he was excluded from 4 nurseries and has been excluded 4 times since starting reception on 10 September.

    Hi alyxzandra :hello:

Don't speak to them at all, either ignore their calls or if you do pick up the phone, wait until they speak and then pretend to be a recorded message "I have a DMP with CCCS and my reference number is XXXXXXX. Please call them to discuss all matters related to my debt" then put the phone down. It worked for us with one of our persistent callers at the start of the DMP. It does get better after a few weeks but it can be a bit tough at the start, I think all our calls had stopped by about 6 weeks in so hold on in there.

From your other posts I can see that people are starting to help with your son and am very glad to hear this. I know from bitter experience that it is very hard to get people in schools to listen sometimes and they are keen to put the blame elsewhere so stand your ground until you get all the help that you need.

Morning all, I am having a really bad day today, can't stop crying thinking about the mess we have got ourselves into, just when I think it will all be ok something else rears its ugly head. It has been such a rotten year for us this year I will be glad to see the back of it!

On a more positive note you have all inspired me to dig my slow cooker out and beef stew is cooking as I type, nice bit of comfort food for later!

    Hi savvysass :hello:

I found it a real emotional roller coaster at first, I was elated one minute and in floods of tears for days the next. It really is tough going but I promise you, it does get better, honestly. :)

When you are fed up or down in the dumps, sound off to us, we promise we will listen because we really understand how you feel. The support on this thread kept me going at first and still inspires me now when I am having angry "I hate all the banks and their ******* interest" moments  and trust me, I have a lot of those :o

Christmas is a hard time but I am cheering myself up with the fact that this year it will be paid for from our money and I won't be worrying about the CC bills arriving in January. Yes the pile of presents won't be as big and the food will be cheaper but does that matter really? I don't think so and will be adding peace of mind to my peace and goodwill :D

hi all hope all is well, my update now getting responses from creditors. Barclaycard frozen account until 4th Nov but they wont get paid until the 25th. So will have to contact them again.

HBOS have cashed both the cc and the loan cheques but havent acklnowledged and sent another DD mandate form for the loan. and got a letter saying they agree the od payment which will reduce but will not cover fees or interests. Need to speak to CCCS about this on monday dont know if i need to phone or write to them think this is going to be a problem as if they dont my OD charges are £60 per month ( not including being charged unauthorised od. so a bit worried.

Lost my voice and cant speak so hubby happy!

    Hi jubilee 14 :hello:

We have 3 creditors still charging full interest after 9 months and CCCS tell us that they are within their rights to do this and they can't do anything about it. Since the start up of our DMP, NatWest have refused to stop the interest and fees on our OD and at first, our debt with them was actually increasing each month. We have gone to the FOS over this and unfortunately they have not been able to do anything yet but are still working on the case, though I am not holding my breath or being optimistic. :(

Having said all of that, HBOS were fine with us so I would write and complain to them and if they don't do anything, try the FOS, who have helped us with other issues including getting Lloyds TSB to stop interest for a few months :T

Hope your throat is better? Your comment re hubby being happy would definitely reflect Mr TTFTM's thoughts if I lost my voice :rotfl:
