Sara, I THINK he may have meant that despite it being called a 'PREFERENCE form', your final location will probably have nothing to do with your preferences. (As opposed to it not really being an exercise but more of a definite).

Certainly out of the people I know who have already been given locations (current CSs although not necessarily JCP staff), at least half of them have been given a location they didn't select which is around 15 miles away. Luckily, both the location they've been given and where we all live are well served by very regular trains so it's not too bad, but it seems like your preferences don't matter.

I think a lot of us are anxious about where we will be sent, because, like you, there are offices which are very far away and I know that certainly in my case, being reliant on public transport could mean a hefty commute, yet if we reject their offer then we're out of the running altogether.

Fed up with not knowing if I am actually 65th, 23rd, 18th or 34th on the reserve list I contacted B'ham district office yesterday.
Today somebody from district office has emailed me to 'investigate' my place on the reserve list. I have forwarded all of my emails and am just waiting to see what the outcome is.
Wonder how long this wait will be.....?:p

gk1980 post_new.gif Today, 2:07 PM spammed_large.gif I didn't email essr, when I was contacted to complete the placement preference form (which wasn't a preferencing exercise!) I received it from the person in the East of Scotland who is managing the new intake so I contacted her directly.

    (My 'quote' reply won't work...so I've copied/pasted gk1980 post_new.gif comment)

I really do hope you are correct about the preference form not being an exercise - it would certainly put my mind at ease, but I was told by two different people on the recruitment helpline that it was just an exercise and I could be offered a placement ANYWHERE within my region (some offices are over a 2 hr drive away EACH WAY).

Really anxious to hear where I will be placed now - and super keen to get started!

Yes Sara, sorry I was being a bit tongue in cheek on that one. My understanding is that the placement list that we filled in was just an exercise (not really sure what value the data collected from it would be). I have heard on the grapevine though that where possible they'll offer based on postcode although that could just be rumour. I suppose we won't know until we get the call. Happily I'm in Edinburgh and there's a good number of job centres within easy commute so while I have my preferred options I'll take anything that they offer.

There will be no acknowledgement of receipt. I had no confirmation either but I know they sent my CRB application out by calling Disclosure Scotland.
I'd call the recruitment line if I were you, just to make sure everything's OK.

Thanks for your post - I followed your example and contacted DS - they confirmed my CRB application was completed and certificate was sent to DWP last week. Still a tad worried as neither of my referees have been contacted yet?? I sent an email to the recruitment team today - so the wait continues!

I haven't gone back through all the pages to see if anyone else has put this, but I know a while back some one was saying that they were on the reserve list for the NE / Durham tees valley, with 41. From what the woman in the job centre said today, all Durham/ Tees Valley are on hold until they re deploy other staff. All internals have been put on hold / reserve list.
  • Anyone else had a provisional offer from W Yorkshire? I accepted on the 10th May, was called by someone from the DWP to ask for character referees the following day.

    Just need to wait now...

Waiting game is still on for everyone. Many Candidates have provisionally accepted more than one offers and are waiting for locations and firm offers.
    .
Reserves will eventually start receiving offers once these posts get free.

Would have been better if everyone was sent off all firm offers with locations and been allowed to accept only one offer within 5 working days. Rant over.

If one receives a provisional offer, his/her checks , references r satisfactory, is it An obligation for dwp to make a firm offer of employment to the person within reasonable time, even if the budget is cut down during that space of time and policy has changed? The way things r slow I just wonder.

I'm no legal expert - but having recruited before until a contract is offered and the other party accepts - any party has the right to walk away. In my world (private sector) it would be the norm for candidates to not give their notice in until I as the new employer made a formal offer - which meant at a minimum a letter from HR stating terms and conditions, start date etc. The signing and return of this offer normally signified agreeing to the contract. The reason DWP term it a "provisional offer" - probably gives them to scope to withdraw the offer if they need to with no obligation to the other party. Budgets being cut would be a reason to withdraw the provisional offer. Its interesting that a recent post has said how this has just happened in Durham.
